According to new research by DFS, shades of 'greige' (a humorous term referring to neutral tones of grey and beige) are masking a longing for an injection of colour across the nation's homes.
The sofa brand, whose products are in the home of over one in four UK householders, have suggested that almost half of UK homeowners (46 per cent) are eager to embrace a bolder palette (include us in that statistic), with a particular preference for on-trend colours such as blush pink, sage green and teal.
So where has the overwhelming wave of greige come from? According to the research, it's a combination of peer pressure (20 per cent of those surveyed suggest their colour schemes are shaped by friends and family) and a lack of inspiration when it comes to bringing colour into the home.
However, it looks as though tides are beginning to change, with DFS sales data signalling the emergence of colour crusaders – the fearless few following their colour ambitions.
Jean Brixey, Merchandise Director at DFS, links this spike in sales to the 'positive impact' of colour and its ability to alter 'how we feel in the sanctuary of our homes,' a theory we're definitely on board with.
