Want to create an outdoor space that you can enjoy all year round? Then you might be in the market for an outroom. These sheltered areas are gaining popularity, even in the UK where the weather is anything but reliable.

So what is an outroom? Not quite a sunroom, but not as exposed as a pergola, they are easy to build, shouldn't require planning permission and provide a great place to chill in the shade (or rain...).

As Real Homes is looking inside some of Britain's most Instagram-famous houses, it was only right we share Lisa Dawson's ever-so-enviable outroom. Here, Sian Astley talks to Lisa Dawson about her garden which includes a large courtyard space enhanced with a custom-built shelter than can be enjoyed whatever the weather.

It is hard not be itching to create your own, so check out these outdoor living space design ideas for even more inspiration. It doesn't have to be a full shelter – a small deck with some throw cushions or even just a corner for a hanging seat make great places to chill out.
