What is Black Friday?
Falling almost immediately after Thanksgiving and just a month before Christmas, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have gained well-deserved traction in the UK as they offer bargain-hunters big savings on everything from smart home tech to mattresses.
This huge annual shopping event marks the start of the festive shopping season, and ensures bargain hunters can score some deals in time for Christmas. Although called Black Friday, the sales will, however, last for around a week or so, with some retailers such as Amazon offering price cuts before then.
So, Black Friday's a big deal then?
Yup. Last year, £968 million was spent on Cyber Monday, only slightly less than the £1.1 billion on Black Friday, and all reports now suggest that this year is going to be bigger.

When is Black Friday 2018?
Black Friday always takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving, but in this case, it's the day after, so Black Friday falls on 23rd November this year.
When is Cyber Monday 2018?
Cyber Monday falls on 26th November, the first Monday immediately after Black Friday.
What’s the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
The majority of deals are set to last from Black Friday through to Cyber Monday and beyond, meaning there isn't a huge difference in the dates.
Before Black Friday was such a hoo-ha in the UK, the day saw great deals on consumer electronics, while Cyber Monday focussed more on clothing and jewellery bargains. Now, though, you can get great deals on everything across the weekend.
Last year, however, Black Friday sales were 78 per cent higher than Cyber Monday, so you'd better mark it in your calendar.
