Award-winning contractor Jody Lidgard has won the gold medal at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with his first show garden for the event.

Based in Norfolk where he runs his own consultancy, Lidgard presented the Montessori Centenary Children’s Garden in the 'space to grow' category. The garden features a sunken greenhouse, edible walls, and a specially designated area that teaches children how to grow vegetables using hydroponic (growing without soil) technology. The natural and fluid planting scheme is livened up by colourful and futuristic structural elements.

'I have designed many show gardens across the UK, but my Chelsea design debut has been something else! Getting a gold medal is a real honour and it does the Montessori movement proud to,' comments Jodie.

'This is a garden with a strong message and I’m glad the judges appreciated the Montessori approach to education which encourages children to discover the world around them. The long term idea is to cultivate enthusiasm for gardening in the younger generation and perhaps grow the next generation of garden designers to join us.'
