The hard work is about to start

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks in a cloud of steam trying to remove layers of wallpaper from every room in the house, and while my arms and back are aching like mad, it’s fair to say that my skin has never looked better. Every cloud has a silver lining I suppose!

Getting everything stripped out of the house so the builders can start work has meant putting in some extensive hours to ensure everything is done in time. We’ve had to call in some favours too, so my parents and brothers have been on hand to help rip out the kitchen, pull down the unsightly polystyrene ceiling tiles, and remove all the built-in furniture and carpets.

For now though, the house looks like less of a home with all the wallpaper and carpets removed, but on the other hand it feels more like ours and I’m already beginning to imagine what it will be like to live there. Devoid of someone else’s choice of fixtures and fittings, our house has become a blank canvas that with care and attention will, hopefully, once again become a fabulous family home.
