Ashley and Rachael Nolan, from Hednesford, Staffordshire, have created a new open-plan kitchen-breakfast room within their three-bedroom semi-detached home by converting the single garage and linking it to the former kitchen. The existing kitchen, now the open-plan dining area, was originally too small for the family’s needs.

An electronically operated Velux rooflight located in the tall sloping roof at the back of the house brings in valuable extra light into the new kitchen.

The former garage also yielded enough space to provide a new downstairs cloakroom.

The project was completed under a design and build contract by Cannock-based company Buckley Loft Conversions (0800 136152, loft-conversions.com) and took only three weeks to complete at a cost of £8,000. The project has added around £12,000 to the value of the property.
