We know, we know it's the August Bank Holiday weekend, but I think we are in a safe enough space here to confess that we have been feeling a bit autumnal for the last week. And for us, bedrooms are the first place we like to give a little seasonal update as we come to the end of summer – making them cosier, more inviting spaces as it starts to get a bit cooler and darker.
Obviously, you don't have to spend a lot on this end of summer makeover, that's where Wayfair comes in! We have been having a scroll over on their Instagram and found five looks and ideas that you can use to inspire a cheap bedroom refresh. You will also find loads of inspo in our bedroom ideas feature so be sure to check that out too.
1. Add some textures with baskets and houseplants
For us, autumnal, cosy rooms need plenty of textures and baskets are the easiest way to get in those natural, rustic materials. Wayfair stock so many different baskets in loads of colours and finishes, plus they are really great prices too. You can use baskets to store extra blankets, books, hair tools and more buuut we do love the look of a house plant in a basket.
Can't keep a plant alive long enough to take the Instagram? Wayfair has loads of artificial houseplants , so no more real plants need be sacrificed.
2. Throw down a new bedroom rug
And it wouldn't be an autumn update without a rug! These really detailed circular jute rugs have been super popular this year – we love that they add pattern and interest but aren't a super bright colour or really bold print, they just add something extra but are still nice a subtle. Wayfair stock plenty of circular jute rugs and you can shop our top picks below, but we especially like this Palisade Hand Braided Jute Brown Rug which can be used as an outdoor rug too.
3. Switch up your bedroom cushions
Can we talk about this combo please? The velvet forest green cushion with the floral bedding is the perfect end of summer look. You've got the bold floral print which is still quite summery, but then that dark green and the velvet just make it all a bit more of an autumn vibe. Check out the Delvale Duvet Cover Set for a really similar look for only £22.99.
4. Layer up bedding for a cosier space
Autumnal interiors needn't all be about adding in darker, richer colours, if you like a light and airy bedroom all year round the key is to just add more layers. Look how in this gorgeous bedroom, the colours have all been kept very simple and neutral but the addition of a thick bedspread and extra cushions just makes the space more inviting. We think this Arian Quilt would be perfect to just throw over some white sheets and a couple of these quilted cushions for extra comfort.
5. Put up some cute wallpaper
Wallpaper is such an easy bedroom update and Wayfair have some amazing prints for such budget-friendly prices. We were drawn to this kid's bedroom design because the woodland wallpaper is just so perfect going into autumn/winter. The Neptune Forest wallpaper is just £18.99 per roll and is really easy to hang yourself, just check out our guide to how to wallpaper.
