Are DIY stores open? And where can you buy DIY essentials for your project, big or small? Whatever you need – garden tools, bulk supplies for a renovation, or a can of paint for updating a room – you may want to head to the newly reopened hardware stores. Just bear in mind: there will be a queue. On the upside, there will be fewer people inside the store when you (finally) get in.

Whether you prefer to shop online or in person, it's good to have a choice. Both Homebase and B&Q have reopened their stores to the public, both adhering to strict social distancing rules and hygiene processes. Wickes also have announced that they have reopened six of their stores. This is a relief – but you can expect long queues as demand for DIY essentials is currently high. Finally, whether or not you count it as a DIY store, there's news on Ikea's potential reopening, too.

The decision of how to shop for DIY goods is ultimately yours alone: you can either brave the queues or order online – no DIY store has stopped online orders, and all are delivering, albeit with some delays.

Read on to find out whether any DIY stores are open in your area – and where you can get the supplies you need online if getting to a store isn't an option.
