Sage green paint is having a bit of a moment, isn't it? We can't scroll through Instagram for more than a few seconds without seeing some gorgeous living room with a green feature wall, a kitchen painted in the perfect, muted hue or even a bathroom. So naturally, we want in on this emerging trend. We have a rounded up five ways you can bring sage green into your home easily – and without spending too much money.

What colours complement sage green?

The complementary colour for sage green is a terracotta red which will warm your space up for sure. It also acts as the perfect setting for cool colours, like grey and blush pink (a couple of our faves there) so how you use it depends on your taste and existing decor.

1. Add a rustic vibe with sage green paint

Our first idea is a pretty straightforward one: if you want some sage green in your life, paint a room with sage green. Simple. We love the colour in a living room as it adds an instant cosiness, while still feeling really fresh. Plus, it won't darken a space.

This shade is Lichen by Farrow & Ball, it's a lovely calm muted green that is based on the ever changing colours of algae (sounds gross, looks gorgeous).

2. Paint your kitchen cabinets sage green

If you want even more sage green in your life, why not paint your kitchen cabinets. It's a really easily DIY that doesn't take long and can completely transform your space.

What wall colour goes with sage green cabinets?

A slightly dark sage green with more of an olive tone works so well in a light kitchen with white or cream walls. Pair it with a white worktop and some gold hardware to give the space a proper refresh on a budget. For a similar paint try Farrow & Ball's Bancha

3. Create a relaxed feel in a bedroom

A really pale sage green paint looks absolutely dreamy in a bedroom. The soft, subtle colours create a really relaxed look, especially when paired with lots of textures and other neutral tones like grey and cream, even a really light pink would work.

This is Tranquil Dawn – Dulux's Colour of the Year and it's our fave one for a while, so easy to incorporate into your home.

4. Upcycle old furniture with sage green paint

Got an old chest of drawers or a bedside table that could do with some TLC? Give them a new lease of life by painting them with sage green paint. We love Annie Sloan paints for furniture, as they give a lovely chalky finish. This piece is painted with Duck Egg Blue chalk paint

5. Get inspired by green in a home office

Green is said to be the best colour to encourage productivity, so it makes sense to paint your home office with a lovely sage green, no?

Pigeon– another lovely, muted green – has been used here,  but this choice has a much cooler, grey tone that's perfect for smaller spaces that don't get tons of natural light.
