Have you sorted out your Christmas menus and thought about what you need for party guests? There’s no need to fret if you’re not quite there because we’re here to help. We’ve picked the best seasonal dishes and drinks from all the top places to shop to feed whoever’s invited to your home this year.
When we’re in search of good value and a wide choice, Lidl is somewhere we like to shop, and the Christmas food and drink from the store is no exception.
Want to find out which are the most delicious choices on offer now? Here’s all you need to know.
Lidl Christmas dinner best buys
You can spend less time in the kitchen and more relaxing if you pick a no-fuss main like Lidl the ultimate festive feast in a blanket. The turkey breast has pork, sage and onion stuffing, it’s layered with sprouts, cranberry melt and dried sweetened cranberries, and it’s wrapped in smoked streaky bacon. That’s all the loveliest Christmas flavours taken care of then.
If you’d like to offer salmon as one of your festive choices, take a look at Lidl deluxe whole salmon side. There’s a choice of lemon and dill or garlic and herb butter and sprigs of rosemary garnishes. Us, we’re having trouble choosing...
We also find it hard to pick between the Lidl mushroom, stilton and cranberry wellington, and the Lidl butternut squash and goats’ cheese wellington. They’re both ideal for vegetarian diners, of course, and both will look fabulous on the table. In the end, though, we’re going to plump for the version with stilton because that’s got the Christmassy edge.
Lidl Christmas pudding best buys
Let’s get real, few of us are going to make a Christmas pud two years ahead to let it mature. Good thing, then, that Lidl has done so instead. Lidl deluxe luxury 24 month matured pudding with Courvoisier VS Cognac has had all that time to develop its flavour, and its selection as joint winner of the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Christmas pudding category and number one pud for BBC Good Food proves it was all worth it.
Now we love a celebratory kir royale, and we adore a dessert of roulade at Christmas. It’s lucky for us, therefore, that we can have two of our favourites in one with the Lidl kir royale boozy roulade. The meringue is filled with prosecco-infused whipped cream, and blackcurrant and cassis sauce. Heavenly!
Never mind your gingerbread house, how about a Lidl dark chocolate and salted caramel cottage? It looks cute, and it’s made with chocolate and salted caramel – what more can we say?
Lidl mince pie best buys
Mince pies, as we may have discussed with you previously, fall into the traditional, or the ‘let’s give them a twist’ camp. Lidl black forest mince pies are most definitely of the latter party, but if chocolate pastry and cherry mincemeat takes your fancy, then snap them up now.
Lidl party food best buys
Lidl has plenty of appealing mini snacks in its Partytime range, so we’re spoiled for choice. We will put a vote in for the mini toad in the holes, though. They look irresistible on a buffet table, and the fact that they’re made with pork and cranberry sausages gives them Christmas credentials.
For afters? Lidl mini eclairs are hard to beat. Belgian chocolate on the top, vanilla-flavoured cream filling, and all you need to do is defrost. Hurrah.
Selecting for your Christmas cheese board? We recommend Lidl Quicke’s oak smoked clothbound Cheddar as part of it. It’s smoked using oak chips to give it the delicious flavour and uses milk from grass-fed cows.
Lidl Christmas wine best buys
Snap this Champagne up while stocks last: it’s just £11.49 a bottle. Citrus and biscuity flavours as well as sparkle can be yours with Lidl Comte de Senneval Champagne brut which garnered a bronze award in the international wine and spirit competition (IWSC).
Enjoy Lidl Outlook Bay pinot noir with your Christmas turkey, suggest the experts at Decanter. They recommend this wine for its good value, and note its fragrance and ‘brambly red and black berry fruits’ . In addition to paring well with the Christmas bird, the red could partner cold meat, gammon or filo parcels.
Enjoy a festive glass of Lidl Armilar ruby port on its own as you relax after the big meal, or sip it as you sample cheeses from your board. After all, some traditions are worth sticking with.
