Ikea smart blinds are something we've been looking forward to for a pretty long time – you may remember that we reported on them back in June – and now we're pleased to reveal that they will finally be available to customers in the US from 1st October, six months after their original 1st April release date. UK shopper? Lucky you, you can already shop Ikea smart blinds right now.

But what are smart blinds and are they really worth the hype? Find out more below, then head over to The Hub for more smart home news, as well as advice and expert buying information.

So, what's so impressive about Ikea's smart blinds? Well, to start with, the Fyrtur and Kadrilj smart blinds are set to be a fraction of the price of similar models offered by competitors. On top of that, they offer:

Battery powered motor

Use a handy, bundled remote to raise and lower your blinds from any location. Can't be bothered to get out of bed? You're sorted.

Control your blinds from your smart phone

Prone to losing remotes? The option to control your blinds from your smart phone is much more useful than it might initially appear. But aside from its day-to-day use, what's most handy about this feature is the fact that you can control your blinds while you're away, giving onlookers the impression that someone is home. And those hard-to-reach windows? Problem solved...

Control your blinds with your voice

Possibly our fave feature – and something that feels very 'home of the future' – Ikea smart blinds can also be controlled using your voice. You'll need to be set up already with an Android or iOS voice assistant for this function to work.

Read more about them in our beginners guide to smart assistants.

Set timers

Wake up alarms are all the rage, right now. But, if you want to get right back to nature why not schedule your blinds to open a few hours before you're set to get up? That way you can tap into your circadian rhythm, and benefit from a (slightly) less painful wake-up call.
