Whether your home office is a corner of the bedroom or living room, or you are lucky enough to have a spare room to convert, choosing how to decorate it so you can work productively is key. However, it's not all about practicality: looks are so important if you're to feel comfortable, happy and even willing to show it off in an open plan space.

We have found five great ideas below that will inspire you, from bold and beautiful to pared back and simple. For tons more home office ideas, don't miss our full design feature.

1. An industrial style home office, with a twist

The industrial, bare-brick look is still going strong, but that doesn’t mean it can’t have a touch of the pretty too. This lovely shade of lilac is called Gentle Lavender, it looks great behind the jet black desk and white shelving, in fact, black goes with any colour so if pastels aren’t your thing then go bold!

2. Home offices can be bright and beautiful!

Home offices, like other rooms in your house, should be an extension of your personality. There’s no need for them to be boring and ‘office’ like. We love this bold idea from Ikea, the rattan accessories and NILSOVE/NORNA chair are right on trend and you can find the navy ALEX desk here. For a similar wallpaper try Graham & Brown’s Bloomsbury Emerald wallpaper.

3. Go sleek and contemporary to keep it simple

For those who love the minimalist look, this is for you. Ultra modern and oh-so-white, this neat corner is ideal if you can keep your work paraphernalia in control - no messy desks here! The floor is glossy and modern and we love the styling of the Eames-style ribbed chair, it breaks up the white scheme perfectly.

4. Go trad, but with modern highlights

If you live in a period property then check out this charming corner, the dotty wallpaper is called Lower George St, Carousel and the paint is

Ambleside, a dark green with soft undertones. Team it with a desk and chair sourced from an antique shop to add character. We love the box shelving – it’s a great alternative to standard shelves and we love how it matches the wallpaper!

5. Love modern country? Try this cute home office look

If you love clean lines but like the classic look then this kind of office corner will tick your boxes. It’s simple and stylish, the panelling adds character and the parquet floor adds warmth. The desk is a new design by Loaf, called Peekaboo (available from 17th September) and has all the trad design features but with a slightly more contemporary feel. Add textures to make your space feel more homely.
