While there are Christmas and winter-lovers out there, most us of spend months like December wishing we could be back in spring or summer. If you cannot afford to jump on a plane and travel to the nearest warmer location, you may be happy compromising for a spring or summer feeling within your own four walls. Home décor and choices of colour can change a lot about how you feel spending time in your own home, so why not add that summer feeling you long so much to your indoors?
The best place to start is with colours. In summer, everything has a glimmer of light to it, and brightness coming from the sun. You can start by looking at things you own that are completely white and think about adding some colours. Inspiration can come from many places. You could have a look at colourful flower bouquets at your nearest florist, and use similar colour combinations. Home décor shops can also be a great source of inspiration as they group up products by trends such as seasons. Esprit Home uses seasonal trends to inspire interior design ideas and facilitate the process of matching décor products together.
While a colourful look can definitely scream summer, you can also opt for nautical touches. Nautical home décor is often associated with summer and gives any space a sensation of cool and breezy. The accessories within the nautical theme are related to ocean and beach, so starfish, anchors or ships will easily add the summer breeze to your bathroom, for example.
The colours you are adding to your space to get the spring or summer feel will usually be inspired by the colour of flowers and plants you see in that time of year. So of course the next step is to simply add plants and flowers. This will add an element of nature and freshness to your home and will add natural colouring that brightens up a table or a corner. In addition to looking wonderful, having plants are home is beneficial for other reasons; they increase oxygen levels and even clean your air from low levels of chemicals and toxins.
You can fill up glass vases or mason jars with things that remind you of summer. A jar filled with sand, or perhaps some beach shells will no doubt give you the beachfeeling you are looking for. This is also a good way to keep souvenirs of holidays you take and allow the memories to take you back to the feeling you had when you were there.
Adding smaller pieces of furniture can also do the trick. Simply add wooden or woven chairs in the bedroom or living room with a light blanket thrown over it. This tends to look like the kind of seat or chair you would be sitting at in your garden during a BBQ or perhaps at the pool during hot summer months.
The colours of the blankets and pillows will have a big impact on the overall impression, too. Mixing up different patterns works really well, and touches of yellow adds that bit of brightness similar to that of sunshine.
