So Real Homes: being bold with dark blue and grey paints in a family home

It can take some guts to switch from a neutral scheme to dark colours, but Instagrammer Amy Wilson of This Style Rocks shows Sian Astley how it has worked so well in her beautiful period home

Are you thinking of adding some dark blue or grey to your family home? You're not alone – while neutral schemes are easy to work with and very adaptable, they do not lend themselves to a scene filled with pets, kids and mucky paws/hands. So sometimes bold colours that can stand the stresses (and messes) of daily life are the way to go.

Yet, while we love a dark decorating scheme, it can be hard to imagine how it might transfer to your own home. Step in Amy Wilson, co-founder of No House Rules (or @thisstyle_rocks as you may know her on Instagram) and her beautiful Victorian property in Yorkshire. She never shies away from use of a strong colour with nearly every room in her home displaying an inky grey, smalt blue or earthy green.

Here, she explains to renovation and interiors expert Sian Astley, how she has embraced the dark side in her home, creating warm, cosy and liveable spaces.

Has this convinced you to turn to the dark side? If you want some more ideas take a look at our grey living room ideas. Or perhaps a leafy green is more to your liking – in which case check out these green living room ideas.

Perhaps you need a little more proof that bold colours are the way to go? Amy's forest green, blue and mustard master bedroom might do the trick (trust us on this one...).
