Want to know how to make yogurt? The easiest way to do so is in a slow cooker. Yep, you read it right. We were just as (pleasantly) surprised as you are. You can make organic yogurt overnight in your slow cooker, ready to serve up with fresh fruit and granola at breakfast time. Sound too good to be true? It is SO easy. And the yogurt will last in the fridge for a good couple of weeks. Remember to save half a cup's worth for your next batch.

You will need:

  • 2.2 litres of full fat milk
  • 120ml plain yogurt – check that it has live active yogurt cultures (the more the better) in the ingredients list


1. Pour the milk into your slow cooker and set it on low heat for around two and a half hours. 

2. Turn it off and let it rest for three. 

3. Next, stir in the yogurt (from the batch before, or a commercial yoghurt, first time round) and pop the lid back on. Cover with a couple of tea towels.

4. Let it rest overnight and in the morning you’ll have your yogurt.

5. Put it in the fridge and the yogurt will thicken further.

Tip: If you fancy a thicker Greek-style yoghurt, pop it in the fridge to let it strain in cheese cloth for a few hours.
