‘Our house was very dated and needed a lot of work when we bought it, but we loved its spacious rooms and were keen on living in this area. While I was pregnant I drew up plans for the renovations, which included the loft conversion.

‘We changed the roof from hip to gable and added a large dormer window to accommodate the new rooms. Luckily, we were able to use our permitted development rights for the loft conversion, so we didn’t have to apply for planning permission.

‘We now have a guest bedroom with an en suite shower room plus a study in our loft.’

The conversion has been designed to be in keeping with the house’s period character, with a gable roof instead of a hip roof
