The black bathroom tap trend is not going anywhere in 2022, according to bathroom design experts. In fact, the statement home decor trend is set to become even more popular.

In a recent study, bathroom retailer Drench.co.uk found that a third of bathrooms featured on TikTok featured black bathroom taps. However, it isn't just TikTok influencers opting for the modern monochrome finish, Drench has also seen this shift away from traditional chrome taps in its search figures.

'Drench.co.uk has witnessed a huge 50% increase in searches for ‘black tap’ in the past year. Suggesting that bathroom renovators are favoring the bold with black taps and saying goodbye to the conventional chrome tap,' says Interiors Expert, Polly Shearer, at Drench.co.uk.

Tap specialist JTP has seen a similar shift of customers turning to the dark side of bathroom hardware. 'We’re seeing many homeowners becoming more confident when it comes to bathroom design with matt black continuing to be one of the more popular colored finishes,' says Jeevan Seth, CEO at JTP.

Black taps might seem like a statement, however, Polly says that part of the appeal is in their universal appeal. 'Despite black taps often making a bigger statement than chrome, they are just as timeless,' she says.

'Whether you’re going for a monochrome bathroom, or you simply want to add a touch of black, they match perfectly in most bathrooms - making them a popular addition.'

It might come as a shock, but as far as statement trends go, black taps are one of the safest ones to introduce into your bathroom ideas. 'Matt black will add a dramatic tone to interiors without overpowering the space,' explains Jeevan.

How to style black taps

If you're keen to swap up your hardware this year, Barrie Cutchie, Design Director at BC Designs recommends sticking to a soft-toned palette such as a dusky pink.

'Matt black taps work particularly well against soft-toned palettes, adding instant depth and contrast without jarring against other features of the bathroom,' Barrie explains.

'Black taps also tend to be of a modern design and are perfect for the modern period trend. Contrast with a traditional bath or basin, for maximum impact.'

If you're looking for a quick powder room idea for 2022, this trend could be just the thing.
