Gin cocktails: 6 easy gin-based recipes

These gin cocktails are just the ginspiration we need for the weekend (or the odd weeknight, too). Easy to make, they're concocted with many of the ingredients you might already have in the fridge/fruit bowl/freezer/garden. And if not, we've provided a handy online shopping list below.

1. The Hendrick's French 75

Simple but sophisticated: toast your event with this celebratory cocktail made with Hendrick's gin.

Ingredients:

  • 30ml Hendrick’s gin
  • 10ml sugar syrup
  • 10ml lemon juice
  • Champagne

Method:

  • Add the gin, sugar and lemon to a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice, shake well and fine strain into a flute
  • Top with champagne

2. Watermelon & Strawberry Crush

This is summer in a glass – cool watermelon, sweet strawberry and a hint of fresh mint. We love this recipe from Two Birds featuring two of their flavoured gins.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Two Birds Watermelon gin⁠
  • 25ml Two Birds Strawberry & Vanilla gin⁠
  • 25ml lime juice⁠
  • Dash sugar syrup, (make your own, 2 parts sugar and one part water)
  • Dash of soda water⁠ (to top up)
  • Garnished with mint sprig and half cut strawberries

Method:

  • Shake the gins, lime juice and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker
  • Add a few ice cubes to a wine glass and pour the cocktail mix in
  • Top up with soda water and garnish with mint and sliced strawberries

3. The Rhubarb Hiball

There’s no doubt about it, rhubarb and gin are a match made in heaven. Inspired by this classic combination, this cocktail has been created by skilled drinks creator Jean-Vital of Mews of Mayfair. Try serving it in a Waterford Crystal Gin Journeys Elegant Hiball glass – specially designed alongside tasters to enhance the aromas and infuse the flavours of the botanicals.

Rhubarb gin cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Bulldog gin
  • 15ml rhubarb syrup
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 2 dashes grapefruit bitters
  • Tonic

Method:

  • Pour the gin, rhubarb syrup, lemon juice and grapefruit bitters into a cocktail shaker
  • Strain and pour into a hiball glass
  • Serve with ice cubes and garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit 

4. Pink Gin Fizz

Showcasing Salcombe Gin's Rosé Sainte Marie, this pretty pink cocktail is a favourite among gal pals.

Ingredients:

  • 35ml Salcombe Gin Rosé Sainte Marie
  • 15ml Chambord
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 15ml vanilla sugar syrup
  • Angostura bitters
  • 3 raspberries
  • Fever-Tree soda water

Method:

  • In a Boston shaker, muddle together the raspberries with the gin, Chambord, lemon juice, vanilla sugar syrup and a dash of Angostura bitters
  • Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds
  • Double strain the mixture into a Champagne flute
  • Top up with soda water and garnish with a twist of lemon peel on the side of the glass

5. Strawberry Ginshake

This ginshake really does bring all the boys (and girls) to the yard. You are never too old for a milkshake – especially when it has Two Birds gin in it...

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Two Birds Strawberry & Vanilla gin⁠
  • 100ml milk
  • 100ml cream
  • Handful of strawberries
  • Ice

Method:

  • Put all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker
  • Give it a really good shake until the strawberries are crushed and everything it well mix
  • Serve with the ice in it, topped with cream and extra strawberry slices

6. The Sloegroni

A country twist on a classic, this recipe substitutes gin for The City of London Distillery's seasonal sloe gin – a traditional British infusion – and is served in an old fashioned-style glass filled with ice.

Ingredients:

Method:

  • Put all the ingredients into an old-fashioned/lowball glass with ice
  • Stir vigorously to dilute slightly
  • Garnish with an orange slice and serve
