Wow. H&M Home's new Timeless range. Gotta see it... Every home needs foundation designs that are going to stand the test of time. Even full-on interiors addicts like us here at Real Homes don’t want to change every element of a room scheme as fashions do. It’s not affordable, nor sustainable, and altering everything all the time just wouldn’t feel, well, homely.

We’re not saying give up the on-trend buys, of course (heaven forbid!). It’s just that room schemes should evolve from sound foundations. But where to find those designs that make a great starting point for each room? We’re loving the new Timeless pieces from H&M. They’re designed to keep on looking good, so you can build around them. We’ve rounded up our favourites below to inspire you. For more fab living room ideas, don't miss our dedicated design gallery.

1. That lamp! Those tables!

Boho chic at its finest. Unsurprisingly it's already out of stock, but this Bamboo pendant light, £69.99, should go on your watch list. The tray tables at £79.99 each should, too.

Want a gallery wall that's understated and cool, and won't date? H&M's new picture frames are it. The big wooden frame above is just £17.99. Pick up tips and gallery wall ideas (tastefully done) in our guide.

3. Cushions, cushions, cushions

H&M's new cushion range is mega... but prices aren't. The striped cushion in the middle of this sofa is just £6.99. We think it would look pretty good in a coastal themed room, too.

4. Take a seat (preferably this one)

H&M low lounge chair

Wood and rattan is a classic combination we’re confident you won’t tire of. And doesn’t the shape of this chair just say, relax? The meranti wood it’s made from is FSC certified, so you can be confident it’s from a sustainable source. Low Lounge Chair, £199.99.

5. Choose a chic plant pot

A connection with nature promotes well being, but leaving the houseplants that create it in your home in the plastic pots they came in rather detracts from the effect. This attractive mango wood pot is the ideal swap and, like the lounge chair above, it’s made from FSC-certified wood. Large Wooden Plant Pot, £29.99.

6. Add texture underfoot with this rug

Interiors you’ll love for years have an appearance that brings pleasure, but you can enjoy your interiors through touch, too. You’ll definitely treat your feet with this lovely rug, and its geometric pattern has plenty of style mileage. Jacquard Weave Wood Blend Rug, £49.99.

7. Layer up the loveliness in living rooms and beyond

H&M Wood Blend Blanket

You may feel as if you’ll never need a blanket again, but hard though it is to believe right now, a time when cosiness is all you crave will come again. And when that moment arrives, you can grab this soft blanket in soft, netural tones from the back of a chair or the end of the bed, and snuggle. Wood Blend Blanket, £39.99.

8. Think: display (ooooh we love these pots!)

H&M Large Stoneware Vase

Decorative accessories can have timeless style, too, and we think this shapely stoneware vase (£19.99) cuts it. It’s 30cm high, so it will make an impact, and stoneware is lastingly lovely. Group it with other stoneware in a mix of shapes and sizes for a pleasing display.
