Benjamin Moore's Color of the Year sets the tone for upcoming interior design trends, and you're about to start seeing this color everywhere—if you haven't already.

The 2021 hue,  Aegean Teal 2136-40, is a color steeped in comfort and versatility. The blue-green shade feels especially timely knowing that it was designed with the intention to inspire us to reflect and reset.

“As we spend more time at home, it’s important to create a space that feels warm and welcoming," said Helen Shaw of Benjamin Moore. "This year's Color of the Year is a balanced and soothing hue, softened with a touch of grey to create spaces with casual elegance."

Given the tumultuous times of 2020,  this shade feels calming, yet upbeat. We could certainly imagine the teal splashed across cabinets, making a statement as a sofa, or creating a tranquil bedroom or bath space.

“Aegean Teal 2136-40 expresses a welcoming, lived-in quality that celebrates the connections and real moments that take place," said Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore's director of color.

While 2021's color feels like an unexpected departure after an infusion of desert tones have seemed to overtake design, the Aegean Teal bridges the gap between warm and cool tones. And, it easily pairs with the 11 other shades of the Color Trends 2021 palette, that Benjamin Moore described as sunbaked, approachable, and livable, and seem to be right in line with the colors we've been seeing across retail.

"The earthy tones and rich neutrals radiate wellbeing and emotion, our homes are a space of flexibility and multifunctionality, and this palette correlates to that," Shaw further explained. The 12 colours have an organic synergy... and make your home feel even more like home, so settle in and connect.”
