What is a dream home if it doesn't have a fireplace? And now that most places in the Northern Hemisphere are getting chilly, fireplaces are on our minds a lot more often. There isn't an activity they won't make more pleasurable, whether it's reading, watching TV, or soaking in the bath. These homes with fireplaces are making us want to be lazy and not move for the rest of fall and winter.

1. The Hamptons rental with an almighty fieldstone fireplace

Now, this fireplace is guaranteed to keep you warm on a chilly night! This amazing home in the Hamptons is a rental and was built by a master carpenter. There are five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a heated pool, and a tennis court. Still, the double-height lounge with the fieldstone fireplace is our favorite feature.

2. The wood-panelled lounge with a black marble fireplace in Greenwich, CT

This elegant and peaceful home in Greenwich, Connecticut borders conservation land and provides lots of privacy and quiet. It's a proper luxury estate inside, too: there are six bedrooms, each with its bathroom, and (wait for it) the master bedroom has two bathrooms and two walk-in closets. Why share when you can have one each? The wood-panelled lounge with the black marble fireplace makes us want to curl up with a book and spend about a month in there without moving.

3. The elegant San Francisco home with a massive fireplace

Because it get cold in California too! This super-cool home in Frisco has been designed by award-winning architect Bob Arrigoni and combines a minimalist style with more luxurious elements, creating a unique interior that's both cozy and glamorous. The fireplace is massive, but it's got a lot of space to keep warm: the entire rear of the house, which has been transformed into single kitchen/dining/family room with direct access to the rear garden. Open plan living at its best.

4. The NYC home with a fireplace in the bathroom

Because how much more decadent can it get than warming yourself by a fireplace while having a bath? Especially when the bathroom is as pretty as this one in New York City. It's part of a townhouse located on one of the most desirable streets in Greenwich Village (picture dark-framed windows, massive kitchen, and ornamental plasterwork). This might be the one that's really stolen our heart.
