This Gtech vacuum is the world's smallest. Renters and small space dwellers rejoice!

So compact it can fit in a drawer, the HyLite small vacuum cleaner is environmentally friendly, too, say Gtech

The newest Gtech vacuum takes 'small, lightweight and cordless' to a whole new level. In fact, the HyLite has been dubbed the world's smallest, lightest vacuum cleaner. At just 30cm wide, it fits easily into a drawer (see below), and weighs not quite 1.4kg. We've yet to find a lightweight vacuum cleaner that can beat it on those fronts. But how does it perform?

The newly launched Gtech HyLite is ideal for renters, small homes and quick clean ups. It can hold 0.9kg of dust and the battery lasts 20 mins – long enough to work around a flat, we reckon. Its power output is 90 watts – if you compare that to our top lightweight vacuum pick, the Dyson V8 Absolute, which sits around 115 watts – that's not bad going. And Gtech sees this as a positive in terms of bills, claiming it will help you save on electricity and reduce carbon emissions.

There are no long hoses and tubes with this vac. Instead, the HyLite collects the dirt just 1cm from the floor, and its this shorter air path that helps compress the dirt and improves.

The telescopic handle is completely removable so you can easily clean areas that are usually a bit tricky with a full sized vacuum, such as stairs and soft furnishings (see below).

What else? Recharge time is just two hours. The best part? As we've said, you can literally fold this vacuum away into a drawer so you don't need any under stair storage or cupboard space, making it perfect if you are squeezed for space.

If you're looking to invest there are plenty of Gtech discount codes to help you snap up the vacuum for a bargain price.

The Gtech HyLite is available now for £169.99.
