The best small desks for bedrooms, because who even has space for an office?

Sure, the world may have gone back to the “new normal” but not everyone has gone back to the office. I’m still working from home, and my poor back is PAYING THE PRICE. Yep, I’ve been typing away like a little typing fairy on my bed for way too long, and without a proper office desk, I'll injure myself if I’m not careful. I mean, I totally need a comfortable office chair, too, but let's take this one step at a time.

But let’s be honest, who the heck has the money to pay for an apartment with separate office space? I certainly don’t, which is why I always thought that I couldn’t have a desk. But it turns out that small desks do exist, and they’re designed specifically for renters and small space dwellers who want to make the most out of their tiny square footage. They fit neatly into the little gaps you have in your bedroom, and being able to work from a desk will let your co-workers see on your weekly Zoom meeting that you’re not a little goblin who simply lies in bed all day (because you only do it for half the day, right?).

Small corner desks for bedrooms

If you’ve read any of my articles before (you should, I’m great), you’ll know that I love a corner! That’s because corners are normally too awkwardly shaped for anything other than dead space, which means that you’re wasting some serious square footage that can be extremely useful when you live in a small apartment. By filling this corner space with a desk, you can add a super practical addition to your life into your bedroom without actually taking up any extra floor space. So, you’re basically adding something for nothing!

Small bedroom desks with drawers

If you live in a small apartment, I’m gonna go ahead and assume that you don’t have a lot of storage space. That’s why opting for a desk with storage in your bedroom could be the perfect answer to all of your problems. That way, you can split your workspace into two different sections. You can have the space you use to actually get sh*t done, and then you can use the drawers to store your pens and pencils, your chargers, or just anything else that you don’t have space for in your bedroom. It just makes sense.

Small white desks for bedrooms

Let’s be honest, white just goes with everything. And no matter if you have a white bedroom or you’ve painted your bedroom in the colors of the rainbow (that sounds super cool, FYI), a white desk will always go with the decor of your room. So, you don’t need to second-guess your decision to buy a small white desk for your bedroom. It’s a given that it will look awesome, and white has the added bonus of making a room look bigger! And sometimes size does matter when you’re trying to add another piece of furniture to your small bedroom.

How can I put a desk in my small bedroom?

Just because you have a small bedroom doesn’t mean that you can’t add any more furniture into the mix. If you’re smart about your placement and your sizing, you can add this practical addition without scrimping on too much valuable space. Don’t believe me? Well, listen to Alex Tolofson from furniture brand Noa & Nani instead. He told me, “When it comes to placing a desk in a small bedroom, it’s important to consider both functionality and space efficiency. One of the best places to put a desk is in a corner. This not only maximizes the use of space but also creates a cozy and comfortable workspace.”

But that’s not the only place that Alex suggests. He also stated that, “Another option is to place the desk alongside a wall that is opposite the entrance. This placement allows for the desk to be out of the way and creates an unobtrusive workspace that doesn't disrupt the flow of the room. This placement also allows for natural light to flow into the workspace, which can help to reduce eye strain and make working more pleasant.” Whatever placement you choose, though, Alex wants you to remember to “make sure that there is enough space around the desk to move comfortably and that the desk doesn’t block any windows, doors or pathways.” So, it really is as simple as that!

Lauren Bradbury

Hey there! I'm Lauren, and I've been a writer now for over seven years (wow, that makes me feel old). During that time I've written about everything from celebrities to casino content, but nothing has made me "zing" quite as much as home and lifestyle pieces. I live in a beautiful Victorian terrace house in Kent with my husband and my naughty cocker spaniel puppy, and despite the leaking roof that we can't quite seem to fix, I've loved turning my house into a home. Sure, my eclectic mix of boho chic and maximalism sounds like a clashing nightmare, but it's MY clashing nightmare.
