On the hunt for gorgeous guest bedroom ideas, to get your spare room looking at its best? It's easy to ignore a spare room, especially as most of us haven't had many guests to stay this year. But now it as good a time as any to spruce up your guest bedrooms, while they are pretty much empty. Plus we always thinking it's nice to stay in the guest room every now and then, like a little holiday in your own home (can you tell we haven't got away in a while?).

Anyways, here are five lovely guest room ideas to quickly update the space and for more bedroom ideas (which can obviously also be used for second bedrooms) head to our gallery.

1. Add interest to a guest bedroom with wallpaper

Guest bedrooms needn’t be sparse, in fact, they can be decorated as beautifully as your own bedroom! This stunning wallpaper looks great in this loft bedroom and we love how the roof frames it perfectly, the white painted wood ceiling ensures the space is light and airy too, an often rare find for a loft space. It can be useful to have twin beds, that way you can put your aunt and cousin at the same time for example!

2. Dress up the bed with layers of pillows and throws

We don’t all love pink...shockingly, so it’s good to have a few different bedding set colors in case your dad visits. A mixture of blues and greys works really well, and choosing different textures for added interest and comfort is always worth it. There’s nothing nicer than sinking into a high cotton count clad bed! Add in plenty of cushions so your guest is super cozy too.

3. Update the headboard

Save money by buying a basic double or king-sized divan and turn it into a fabulously stylish bed by adding a headboard. It will transform the look of your guest room in no time. If you’re feeling adventurous you could cover the headboard yourself with some favorite fabric, or buy a ready-made design like this one shown. Either way, let the headboard be the feature of the room and tie in your accessories to complement it.

4. Sneak in some hidden storage

Guest rooms are usually clutter free compared to the main bedrooms in the house and that’s one thing that makes them stand out. If you want your guest room to work a little for you then buy a bed that has storage underneath, that way you can put spare bedding, seasonal duvets and clothes and throws in it so they are tucked away until needed – and your next guests will never know.

5. Experiment with color in a guest bedroom

As the guest room isn’t always in use, you could go a little wild and experiment with paint colors – you might hit on a favorite scheme that you can use elsewhere. This gorgeous pink and coral bedroom has cocoon like qualities and we’d love to have a kip in that cozy looking bed. Plus painting the ceiling in a color is right on trend so give it a go.
