4. How Do You Like Me Now?, Holly Bourne

It's your typical tale about a woman who seemingly has it all, but underneath her relationship is falling apart and her best friend is close to leaving her behind. Sad times. But this book actually deals with this told-a-million-times tale with brutal honesty; it's hilarious, insightful and pretty touching at times. Basically, it's got all you could want from a holiday book.

5. I'll Never Tell, Catherine McKenzie

If you're always up for a good murder mystery, go for I'll Never Tell. Don't judge this by the clichéd front cover; it's a complicated, gripping read. After their parents' sudden deaths, five siblings reunite to decide what to do with their family's property. But before they can, they have to figure out what happened to their fellow camper Amanda... oooh.

6. City of Girls, Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Gilbert’s City of Girls takes the reader back to 1940s New York city through the perspective of 89-year-old Vivian Morris, who reminisces about her wild time in the theatre and reflects on the year she was kicked out of college – a decision destined to change the fate of the then 19-year-old's life. Really, what else would we expect from the author of Eat, Pray, Love, if not a novel of a woman and her journey of self discovery?
