When you order a banana split you're usually on holiday somewhere OR having a birthday dinner out with family in your local pub. It's usually thought of as a hilariously fully loaded pudding, and it screams fun, especially if yours comes out with a sparkler on top... But, what if we told you that you can have a banana split it in the AM? Yep, it's Saturday and it's a long weekend so if there is a time to treat yourself, it is now.

Don't panic about your waistline and click away just yet either, as there is no ice cream in sight in these banana split recipes. They are actually fully loaded with tasty nutrient-rich ingredients instead. Breakfast vibes all the way; healthy, so simple to make, and kids will love them too – it's going to be a good day.

Note, that all of the following recipes serve one, so if you're sharing the love or having a breakfast party just multiply the ingredients needed by the mouths you're feeding. And, for more recipe inspiration be sure to visit our food hub.

Special thanks to Aldi for sharing this recipe with us.

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 50g fresh or defrosted mango chunks
  • 50g fresh or defrosted pineapple chunks
  • 70g yoghurt (go for coconut yoghurt for even more tropical vibes and a vegan option)
  • 30g granola

Method

1. Peel and slice the banana lengthways down the centre (vital!)

2. Pop them on a plate as you wish (be creative)

3. Add half the fruit in the centre or over the bananas

4. Dollop the yoghurt in the same way

5. Add the rest of the fruit, sprinkle the granola over the top and ta-da.

5. Drizzle the PB over the entire thing (artistically)

6. Sprinkle the cacao nibs over the top and tuck in.
