GHD Platinum Plus review
Here's what we thought of the GHD Platinum Plus hair straightener
The GHD Platinum Plus is a great hair straightener: it's safe, easy to use and leaves you with shiny, straight hair. It definitely performs better than the Original Styler, however, there is a large difference in price.

Why you can trust Real Homes
Looking to invest in a GHD Platinum Plus styler? We've reviewed this hair straightener to help you decide whether it's for you. It's definitely one of the best hair straighteners money can buy since it looks the part and plays the part pretty well while being safe to use. It's also an incredible performer and the quality is like no other – GHD stlyers last for years and years of daily use.
Let's talk about price: it's definitely more expensive than the GHD Original, retailing at £199. You could buy during Black Friday to score a deal, though. See our GHD Black Friday page for discounts.
We tested the GHD Platinum Plus styler on both shorter, older hair and medium-length slightly wavy hair. In both instances, this hair straightener wowed us with incredible results. For a deeper insight, read our review below.
GHD Platinum Plus: specifications
- Heat-up time: 30 seconds
- Technology: Ceramic heat
- Colour: Various
- Heat settings: 1
- Temperature: 185ºC
- Auto shut-off: 30 mins
- Cord length: 2.7m
GHD Platinum Plus: heating setting and performance
These hair straighteners have technology that adapts the heat for your specific hair; there is one heat setting – with 185ºC optimum heat – yet heat is constantly monitored thanks to sensors throughout the plates, meaning the power is adjusted accordingly.
GHD puts it like this: these straighteners ‘respond to each section of your hair and styling speed to deliver the optimum temperature of 185ºC more effectively, ensuring 70% stronger hair [than using a straightener at 230ºC], 20% more shine [than naturally dried hair] and two times more colour protection. Heat is monitored over 250 times per second thanks to infinity sensors throughout the plates, ensuring a precise reading to adjust the power accordingly.’
As users, we don’t think you’d necessarily notice this – but over time you SHOULD find that regularly straightened hair is in better condition
GHD Platinum Plus: ease of use
Like on the GHD Original Styler, the swivelling cord of the Platinum+ is a handy feature that makes using them less of a faff. These straighteners also have floating plates, meaning styling and curling is made easier.
And yes, we did find them easy to use. The plates are a little bigger than those of the Originals, which doesn’t make a massive difference but does make using them really easy. And yes, like the Original, they sit on their side, so you can pick them up and put them down again without worrying whether you’re going to burn your furniture.
GHD Platinum Plus: safety features
The straighteners have an automatic sleep mode, so after 30 minutes of inactivity they turn themselves off. They also come with a heat-resistant plate guard that protects both the straighteners and your furniture.
GHD Platinum Plus: design
The GHD Platinum boasts a very sleek and smart design with a rounder barrel than other GHD stylers and a wishbone hinge for easy clamping. That and it comes in a range of colours – white, black, pink, blue and more. One thing's for sure: we definitely don't mind show these off on our dressing table.
You can even get the GHD Platinum+ personalised with your initials, should you like.
GHD Platinum Plus: our verdict
Our two testers had different hair types: one had slightly wiry, older hair, the other had slightly wavy, young hair. In the past, both have found that their hair looked unnaturally stiff when straightened.
In both cases, the Platinum+ left their hair looking shiny and naturally straightened, yet flawlessly straight. The overall effect is a glossy finish and effortless, perfectly smooth styling.
GHD Platinum+ VS GHD Original Styler – which one is better?
The GHD Platinum+ styler looks better and feels nicer to use. But, they’re much more expensive. The GHD Platinum+ retails at £189 while the Original Styler costs £109. If money were no object, we’d definitely buy these instead of the GHD Original Styler because they are much nicer to use. But, we still love our Originals and they definitely do the job.
