We ordered Mother’s Day flowers from the UK's top flower delivery services this week - these bouquets were the best

Mother's Day flowers: we tested the UK's leading flower delivery services to find out who has the best Mother's Day bouquets - and who's offering a non-contact delivery

Sending Mother's Day flowers by post seems like an excellent idea right now - and there's still time, if you're quick. If you're considering ordering a beautiful Mother's Day bouquet online instead of visiting family this weekend, you're not alone - but you are running out of time: Mother's Day is just two days away. So which online flower delivery service has the best Mother’s Day flowers this year? Should you switch to letterbox flowers? And if not, are there any precautions you can take to make your Mother's Day flower delivery safer?

The best Mother's Day Flower delivery services: results

You'll find our full report below, but if you want to buy the best Mother's Day flowers right now, here are the wining services, in order, as decided by our tests.

1. Bloom & Wild: best non-contact delivery - from £20
2. Interflora: biggest bouquet - £5 off some flowers
3. Waitrose: best presentation - and save £5
4. M&S Flowers: from just £25 plus FREE delivery
5. Moonpig: flowers from £20 + free personalised card
6. Prestige: cheap Mother's Day flowers - 25% off

To find out, we ordered £50-worth of Mother’s Day flowers (or as close to £50 as possible) from nine leading online florists to put them to the test. We ranked each bouquet on a range of criteria, including value for money, freshness, presentation, ease of ordering, and delivery - with a big emphasis on whether a non-contact delivery would be possible.

The results were fascinating. If non-contact delivery is an absolute must, choose letterbox flower specialist Bloom & Wild. The Mother’s Day Delight (£51) bouquet we received wasn’t the biggest on test (that was the Large Mother's Day Pastels Hand-tied bouquet from Interflora, £48). But the bouquet was stunning - the best of all the letterbox flowers we ordered - and because the package is designed to be posted, you don’t have to answer the door to receive the flowers.

The real story here, though, is how the rest of the flower delivery services we tested have stepped up to the challenges the country is facing. We found that companies like Interflora and Floom - which pride themselves on their bigger, better-presented, hand-delivered bouquets - are now offering non-contact delivery as well. In fact, we found non-contact deliveries from these florists to be a much friendlier interaction (albeit from a socially responsible distance) than those we received via courier. We were particularly impressed with Bristol florist Belle de Jour via Floom on this, who told us they’d already delivered three non-contact bouquets that morning.

Many of the smaller flower delivery services are offering non-contact delivery now too, and we’ve highlighted those that do below. In conclusion? We’d still recommend Bloom & Wild as the safest option for Mother’s Day flowers this year; but for the biggest instant wow factor, consider hand-delivered services like Interflora and Floom - which topped our tests for quality and value for money; and don't write off couriered services like Waitrose. Just make sure you ask for a non-contact delivery if you need one. Here’s our round-up of the best Mother’s Day flowers in the UK this year…

1. Bloom & Wild: best no-contact flower delivery

Bouquets ordered: Mother's Day Delight, £51 and The Harper, £30 | Bouquet type: Letterbox flowers | Delivery cost: £10 | No contact delivery? Yes | Freshness guarantee: None stated

Bloom & Wild Mother's Day flowers

Value for money: 9/10
Freshness: 10/10
Presentation: 6/10
Ease of ordering: 10/10
Delivery service: 10/10

Total: 45/50

WHAT HAPPENED: We had two letterbox deliveries from Bloom & Wild: The Mother's Day Delight and The Harper. It took a little while to choose them because although the Bloom & Wild website is beautiful to look at, the navigation forces you to scroll through all the options before you find what you want. Still, ordering was easy.

Both bouquets arrived in excellent condition, with small netted covers to protect the rose heads, and plenty of instructions for preparing, arranging, and maintaining our flowers. The flower arranging guide that came with the Mother's Day Delight bouquet, in particular, was packed with handy tips and beautiful illustrations - we enjoyed the process (and we learned something too).

The value for money of each bouquet was immediately apparent. It's normal for letterbox flowers to look a little droopy on first arrival, but aside from one flattened rose head and a few slightly dishevelled stems, both bouquets looked great straight away in their vases. Overnight they perked up, and by the next morning they seemed even fresher and fuller than the day before.

Both arrangements arrived with a number of unopened buds to prolong the life of the bouquet. Compared to similarly-priced options we received from Interflora (hand delivered) and Waitrose (courier), our Bloom & Wild bouquets were notably smaller because they came through the letterbox. However, the considered extras that arrived in the boxes - the beautifully presented guides that told us how to arrange and look after our flowers, and a 75g box of Ocelot milk chocolate in The Mother's Day Delight bouquet - made opening both packages feel special. And the bouquet still looks great five days later. We still feel that our Bloom & Wild bouquets were good value for money.

VERDICT: In normal times, we might have chosen Interflora (below) as the best Mother's Day flowers on test, but our Bloom & Wild Mother's Day Delight bouquet was easily the best letterbox flower bouquet we ordered: it's fresh, perky and absolutely beautiful. Yes, it's smaller than our bouquets from Interflora and Waitrose, but once arranged, the blooms held their own when placed next to the larger displays. Plus all the extras in the box felt like a real treat. If you're looking to send quality Mother's Day flowers by post this week, choose a bouquet from Bloom & Wild.

Bouquet ordered: Large Mother's Day Pastels Hand-Tied, £48 | Delivery cost: £11 | Freshness guarantee: 7 days | No contact delivery? On request (up to local florist's discretion)

Interflora Mother's Day flowers: score

Value for money: 8/10
Freshness: 10/10
Presentation: 8/10
Ease of ordering: 10/10
Delivery service: 9/10

Total: 45/50

WHAT HAPPENED: We found ordering Mother's Day flowers online through Interflora to be an easy and quick process. We chose the large Mother's Day Pastels bouquet, and were impressed when it turned up: unlike boxed flower deliveries, where the blooms are hidden, Interflora's hand-delivered bouquets have instant impact. Our bouquet was vibrant, fresh and beautifully presented in biodegradable cellophane and a recyclable gift box. It was also notably bigger than our letterbox bouquets from Bloom & Wild, and receiving it felt like a real treat.

All the blooms arrived in perfect condition (which not all of our test Mother's Day flowers managed). Some flowers had been substituted, but the replacements were a good match and complimented the rest of the arrangement so well that the originals weren't missed. We were pleased to see a number of buds, too, to ensure the bouquet would last at least seven days, as promised.

VERDICT: Interflora partners with local florists, so we can't guarantee that you'll have the same experience as us. However, we were very impressed with our Interflora Mother's Day flowers. This excellent service does come at a cost - £11 - and you'll certainly find cheaper Mother's Day flowers elsewhere (like Prestige, below). But if you're looking for instant wow, we wholeheartedly recommend the Large Mother's Day Pastels Hand-Tied bouquet, and we would happily order more Mother's Day flowers from Interflora.

Bouquet ordered: No.1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Jug, £50 (£55) | Delivery cost: Free| Freshness guarantee: 7 days | No contact delivery? On request

Waitrose Mother's Day flowers

Value for money: 8/10
Freshness: 10/10
Presentation: 10/10
Ease of ordering: 9/10
Delivery service: 4/10

Total: 41/50

What happened: It's tough to do this outstanding Mother's Day bouquet from Waitrose justice in the photos - but trust us: it's fantastic. From a technical perspective, the architecture of the pre-arranged No. 1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Jug is outstanding, with tall foliage balancing brilliant roses, apricot lisianthus and charming astrantia. It may look similar to the Bloom & Wild bouquet above, but visually, this was the most attention-grabbing bouquet on test.

When we removed the bouquet from its protective box, the flowers were in perfect condition. All we had to do was drop them into a vase, and appreciate the masterful combination of colours, textures and shapes.

Sadly, that's where we hit a problem. The ceramic jug that came with this bouquet didn't make it through the post in one piece, putting a damper on an otherwise extremely impressive Mother's Day flower delivery from Waitrose. Nevertheless, three days later this medium-sized bouquet still stands out from the rest with it's professional arrangement and fresh blooms - and that's impressive.

Verdict: We were blown away by this classy, super-professional bouquet when it arrived, and still absolutely love it. Unfortunately the No. 1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Jug bouquet is now out of stock, but we wouldn't hesitate to order Mother's Day flowers from Waitrose again - just perhaps without the jug. (Except, know what? That isn't even true: Waitrose offers a number of flowers in Emma Bridgewater jugs, and despite jug-gate, we really want one for ourselves - which says something about the quality of flowers here.)

Emma Bridgewater Ranunculus Jug: £55 (was £60) | Waitrose
We love this exclusive design for Mother's Day, which sees a vibrant collection of beautiful tulips, roses and ranunculus in vivid shades of orange and cerise, presented in a matching jug from iconic designer Emma Bridgewater. Plus there's £5 off right now.View Deal

4. Moonpig - best Mother's Day flowers plus card

Moonpig specialises in personalised greeting cards. Our Mother's Day flower bouquet and letterbox flowers arrived in very good condition and although they didn't quite match Waitrose or Interflora, they were still impressive. However, where Moonpig shines is its brilliant range of customisable cards. If you're looking to add that special touch to your Mother's Day flowers, choose Moonpig.

Browse Mother's Day flowers at Moonpig: from £22 + FREE card

Our bouquets were big and fresh - but where Moonpig really stands out is its excellent card service. Add code LOVEMUM at checkout and you'll get a free, personalised card with your flowers.View Deal

5. Prestige Flowers - best cheap Mother's Day flowers

We ordered two bouquets from Prestige. Both were nice, but didn't really compete on quality or size with the other flower delivery serveries in our test. Where Prestige delivers is on value for money, though: if you're looking for cheaper Mother's Day flowers, choose Prestige.

Browse Mother's Day flowers at Prestige: up to 25% off
If you're looking for Mother's Day flowers on a budget, Prestige has you covered. Prices start from just £19.99, and there are plenty of offers giving you up to 25% off certain bouquets - like the Exquisite bouquet (pictured) which costs £39.99 (was £49.99) and comes with free chocolates.  View Deal

Rest on test: We also ordered Mother's Day flowers from Floom, M&S, Bunches and Teleflorist. While these bouquets were largely very good, they didn't make our top five best Mother's Day Flowers list.
