How good are Waitrose's Mother's Day flowers? We ordered a delivery this week to find out

Spoiler: Waitrose's Mother's Day flowers are phenomenal

Waitrose's Mother's Day flower selection is one of the best Mother's Day flower ranges in the UK. We know this because we ordered bouquets from the country's best flower delivery services earlier this week: we wanted to test which were best, and find out who was offering a non-contact drop off.

The range of Mother's Day flowers at Waitrose is smaller than some (especially now, as bouquets start to sell out) but the quality of the flowers is phenomenal. Prices range from £20 for beautiful hand-tied bouquets like the Mother's Day Gift Wrapped Pink Rose all the way up to £100 for the magnificent No.1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Bouquet - an exquisite collection of lilies, lisianthus, roses and astrantia.

There's also a fine collection of Mother's Day plants and luxury flowers on offer at Waitrose, plus a good range of extras to add to your order if you choose, including biscuits, truffles, champagne and more.

Hand-tied bouquets make up the majority of the Waitrose Mother's Day flower range, but there are five letterbox flowers on offer too (£22-£28). They'll be delivered straight through the letterbox, making them a particularly good choice if you want a non-contact delivery.

Waitrose Mother's Day flower delivery options

Waitrose gives you free next day (or nominated day) flower delivery - and that's a real bonus because delivery can add up to a tenner to to your order at some other online florists. Bear in mind that you don't get same-day delivery from Waitrose though.

All Waitrose flowers arrive by courier. You can specify in the delivery notes whether you want a non-contact delivery, although if this is very important we would also recommend that you ask the recipient to leave a note on their door specifying where to leave the flowers. (This isn't ideal if the Mother's Day flowers are intended as a surprise, of course.)

WHAT HAPPENED: Ordering the No.1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Jug bouquet from Waitrose was easy: the site is well designed and straightforward to use. The bouquet was delivered bu courier, and as soon as we removed it from its protective box we were blown away. Architecturally, this bouquet is a masterpiece: tall foliage balances brilliant roses, apricot lisianthus and charming, textured astrantia. The arrangement was even more impressive in real life than the photos of the website implied. Visually speaking, this was the most attention-grabbing bouquet we tested.

All the blooms were in good condition on arrival, with several buds still to open. However, unfortunately the ceramic jug that came with this bouquet didn't make it through the post in one piece, putting a damper on an otherwise extremely impressive Mother's Day flower delivery from Waitrose. Nevertheless, four days later this stunning medium-sized bouquet still stands out from the rest we tested with it's incredibly professional arrangement and fresh blooms.

VERDICT: We were incredibly impressed by this classy, extremely professional bouquet of Mother's Day flowers from Waitrose when it arrived. Full, fresh and exquisitely arranged, it still looks amazing four days later. Unfortunately the No. 1 Mother's Day Flower Garden Jug bouquet is now out of stock, but we wouldn't hesitate to order Mother's Day flowers from Waitrose again - just perhaps without the jug if it's a gift for someone else. (Although that said, we really, really like the look of Waitrose's exclusive Emma Bridgewater Ranunculus Jug bouquet...)
