But because there is such a great selection to choose from, we are offering our expertise to explain the differences – and conclude which come out on top.
Of course, many of the models listed below qualify as some of best vacuum cleaners on the market altogether. So, save yourself the trouble of wading through hundreds of options and read our reviews below instead, in order to find the Shark vacuum to change your cleaning routine completely.
Shark terminology: an explainer
Shark produces cordless, stick, robot and canister vacuums. When you look at some of their vacuums by type, it can be a little tricky to work out the differences – especially with a letter and numeral-based naming convention. Then they have terms like 'LiftAway', 'DuoClean' and 'Flexology' in their titles, just to add to the confusion.
Luckily, we have studied the variety of Shark vacuums available and now have a good grasp on what the various names mean.
Shark's LiftAway technology allows you to lift the canister away from the main body of a corded vacuum cleaner. This is great for reaching areas where your cord can't. Stairs, car upholstery and even behind your sofa are easily in reach when you buy a Shark vacuum with LiftAway.
Then, there's Anti Hair Wrap. This one is slightly more self-explanatory. Anti Hair Wrap is designed for homes with pets and long-haired occupants. It will pick up all the hair from carpets and wooden floors, but prevent it from getting tangled around the brush roll thanks some self-cleaning tech.
Flexology is used to describe Shark vacuums where the wand can be straight and also angled. This means you can bend your Shark vacuum low, thanks to an elbow-like hinge in the wand, which is great for getting under furniture and around corners without having to do all the bending yourself.
Finally, DuoClean is the name of Shark's self-adjusting brush roll. If you find a Shark vacuum with DuoClean in the name, it means the brush roll and bristle bars will adapt from hard floors to carpet automatically, without you having to change the roll or switch any settings.
Best Shark vacuum cleaners 2022, according to our expert
We've just reviewed this Shark vacuum and it gets our vote for the best cordless model. Its running time of up to 120 minutes isn’t to be sneezed at, which is achieved courtesy of the twin batteries. What’s the deal? Well, one battery can be charging while you’re merrily vacuuming, so there are no awkward pauses when you’ve run out of power. Talking of sneezing, this model tackles that issue, too, with its anti-allergen complete seal that takes the exhaust air through a filter to prevent dust and allergens being released.
Pet owners get a specialist tool that makes fur removal effective – and we know how many of you need a good solution for this job. We’re also fans of the flexible wand that reaches under furniture where the dust (and pet hair) accumulates.
The users who left a review on the Shark site offered an average 4.5 out of five score for this model. Noted with delight were the machine’s manoeuvrability and lightweight, and the powerful suction on wood floors and different weights of carpet.
For Currys PC World purchasers, it was a happy 8.9 out of ten average score. The plus points for the vac’s users included how easy it is to use the pet tool, how great the suction is and how easy it is to store.

If you want a Shark stick vacuum that doesn't cost so much, the Shark Anti Hair Wrap & DuoClean IZ201UK is the cordless vacuum cleaner for you. It does lack some of the luxury features you'll find in other models, such as noise dampening and easy bin emptying, but at its heart this is a classic, powerful Shark cordless vacuum with a lightweight design and useful cleaning elements.
We like this cordless vacuum a lot. It's got handheld functions that make cleaning the stairs easier than ever, and works well on carpet and hardwood. We thought it performed slightly better on hardwood, but it's an all-rounder for mid-size households.
This vacuum doesn't come with TruePet, but you can always buy it as an add-on. It does come with DuoClean, which really did the job in our tests. Battery life is 40 minutes, which is plenty for most homes.
Users on the Shark website give this vacuum 4.6 stars. They love its anti hair wrap feature, but mentioned that they'd prefer if it stood up on its own.

The Shark ICZ300UKT Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner was so strong on pet hair it reminded us of the original color of the carpet around the dog's bed. It has three strengths and the battery life is best when used on the eco mode, which is still powerful enough to tackle most spaces.
The PowerFins are silicone attachments on the hard roller which disrupt carpet pile to get deep into the fibres and pick up deep-rooted dust and pet hair. They work a treat.
There's not much we don't like about the Shark ICZ300UKT Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner. It's heavier than most, but the Powered Lift-Away design means it's still portable if you want to take it up the stairs or to clean the car.
The battery lifts away from this cordless vacuum and slots into its charger. It claims to be as powerful as a corded vacuum, and we totally agree.

The Shark IZ300UKT Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner is Shark's latest cordless vacuum. It features PowerFins, which is a new feature that goes extra deep into carpets and rugs to pick up more invisible dust and dirt than a regular vacuum.
The battery is easy to add and remove and it actually comes with two batteries, which gives this vacuum an overall cleaning time of 120 minutes. We found that the battery did last a very long time too, and toggling between carpet and hard floors was easy thanks to the DuoClean toggle on the handle.
There's no denying that Shark's new PowerFins technology is top-tier. We love this vacuum for carpets, but if you're working with hard floors exclusively you may not need its full range of capabilities.
Other things we enjoyed were the numerous attachments which made it easy to switch out and turn the vacuum into a handheld. It's also equipped with headlights to clearly see under furniture and around corners.

Our top pick of the best handheld vacuum cleaners, the Shark CH950UKT is a powerful little machine designed to pick up concentrated messes in a jiffy. It's got a lightweight design and compact dimensions, but the battery life is limited to 10 minutes. That's not the longest, but it's more than enough for most handheld tasks.
We tested the Shark CH950UKT on stairs, pet hair and carpets. It held up well on all of them, with a motorized pet tool that's up for even the most trodden-in of pet hair.
Shark users give it 4.4 out of 5 stars. Users love the value for money and comment on the versatility, but they complain of the long charge time for the short battery life.

This is our pick of the best upright Shark Vacuum – is a pet-friendly model which comes with a motorised tool that helps lift fur that’s settled into upholstery. Also making this a winning design is its ability to tackle floor-to-ceiling cleaning in every room thanks to the unique Lift Away technology.
This model is designed to deal with daily cleaning challenges and is one which effortlessly navigates around furniture with enhanced swivel steering. Being an upright vac, it has a large container capacity and Shark’s revolutionary DuoClean floorhead will glide from carpet to hard floor without stopping.
Reviewers on the Shark site were pretty much in agreement with a flat out 5 out of five score rating. Highlights for these buyers? Its one of the best vacuum for pet hair and dirt, pick-up ability and its long 8 metre cable which gave users ample flexibility.
If you prefer bagless cleaners but find the dust container gets full too quickly, we would highly recommend buying this Shark vacuum. Another of your quibbles with your current vac that hair – yours and the pets’ – gets tangled in the brushes? This vac is designed to remove that hair itself so the job’s not yours.
We rate this cleaner highly for those with large homes and/or messy occupants both two and four-legged. Fewer trips to the bin with the dust container, plus a large floorhead that means you’re picking up more dirt with each push make this a great buy for you. It’s versatile, though, featuring Shark’s Lift-Away to let you turn it into a portable to tackle the stairs.
The judgements on the Shark site? Reviewers awarded an overall 4.6 out of five stars. They concluded that the anti-tangle feature was no empty promise, and found the machine quiet to use. Its efficiency with picking up pet hair was also commended.
The design was also a hit with buyers at Currys with an average score of 9.3 out of 10, and the most highly rated features its performance, design and value for money. These users praised its suction power, ease of emptying and liked the lights that illuminate the floor surface for better dirt spotting.
The combination of a stick vacuum design and a generous 10m of cord to go with it means there’s no charging required, but your vac is still light in weight. This Shark vacuum also has the benefit of folding down for storage so it’s a natural for smaller homes. As this is a TruePet it also offers effective fur removal.
We like the option of a stick that lets you roam far from a socket without the prospect of pulling the plug out of the wall, and swivel steering also makes this an easily manoeuvrable choice. With flex that lets it easily clean under the furniture and a pet tool, this vac will suit plenty of different households, and those whose living space is compact will like its modest dimensions. For us, a head you don’t need to change between different types of flooring is a time-saving plus.
On the Shark site, this vacuum cleaner won approval for picking up pet hair a rival had left behind. Buyers also liked its low weight and the way it converts easily for cleaning the stairs. Overall? It was 4.3 out of five from these purchasers.
At Amazon, the judges’ finding was an average four out of five. Here, reviewers liked its ability to clean right to the edges, admired its power, and said it had given carpets a new lease of life.
How we test Shark vacuums249.
Here at Real Homes we like to get some hands-on experience with each of the products we feature in our buyers' guides. This means that it'll help us to understand more about what you are getting for your money. We are still working our way through all the fab vacs featured in this guide but by the end of 2022 we aim to have used them all ourselves. We'll also keep an ear out for new releases.
You can read our full reviews by clicking-through on the product review links or selecting the highlighted product titles in orange. However you get there, you'll see that they have been used for a number of weeks (sometime months) in our own homes so that they are faced with real-life hurdles. Sometimes, we're even fortunate to keep hold of the vacuum cleaners after testing which means that we can update our guides as we continue to learn about then over a long period of time.
We've considered all the important factors such as manoeuvrability, run-time, emptying of the canister (or bag) and general controls. In any instance where we have been unable to review but couldn't miss not featuring the vac, we've taken into account feedback from other users who have left reviews on the website where they have bought it from. For more on the way we test, head to our testing protocol.
How does Shark compare to other models?
Shark models come with a variety of features to make life easier. Flexology means they can be folded down for storage, and offer greater reach under furniture. Hair Wrap prevents hair from getting tangled around the brush which can be a pain to clean and impacts on the effectiveness of your clean. There are also a handy DuoClean models that can be used in upright form, or carried like a small cylinder.
These set Shark vacuums apart from other vacuum cleaners and while not all models come with all of these features, Shark offers so many vacuums that you essentially get a pick and mix of the functions you need the most – keeping lower spec models nice and affordable.
In recent years, Shark has become a leader in cordless vacuum technology. Check out the shoppable video below to see how a leading Shark cordless vacuum compares to similar Dyson and Vax models.
So, which is the best Shark vacuum?
Choosing the best Shark vacuum is not an easy decision to make. They are all very good in their own right and we can't speak highly enough of them but if we to pick one (okay, two) then the cordless model we would recommend you buy has got to be the Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Flexology and TruePet (Triple Battery) IZ251UKTDB. What's brought it out on top is the incredible 120 minute runtime, and the anti-hair wrap tech which will make vacuuming the home with two and four-legged hairy companions so much manageable.
Prefer a corded vacuum cleaner instead? We can vouch for the Shark DuoClean Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Lift-Away and TruePet NV702UKT. It has an eight metre power cord, Power Lift-Away and is truly perfect for homes with pets thanks to the handy equipping of a pet tool. It's worth mentioning that as an upright, it has a large container (1.1 litres) which is great for cleaning around the larger home, too.
