Spend vs save: which should you choose when buying bedlinen?

We always love a bargain, but when it comes to bedding are you better off saving the pennies or splashing out? We put two new collections to the test...

Two new bedding collections have caught our attention this month. Both are very lovely, both feature designs inspired by the natural world, but their price tags are worlds apart.

First up is society interior designer Sophie Paterson’s inaugural collection with luxury linen brand Vis-à-vis. Inspired by Chinoiserie wallpaper, the Butterfly design is particularly delightful, featuring hand embroidered butterflies fluttering across 600 thread count white cotton sateen. You’ve probably already guessed that this is the pricier of the two, and you’d be right. A king size duvet cover will set you back £1,050, while pillowcases are a mere £210 each.

Our second ‘totally-smitten’ moment came via Sainsbury’s Home’s AW18 look book. The arty lino-print style pattern boasts Foxes, hares and flora in muted yellows and greys. Called Woodland Animal, we can see it working beautifully in both town and country. And, while there’s no mention of thread counts or artisanal hand-stitching, at £21 for a double duvet set, including two pillowcases, you can afford to pick up an extra set for spare.
