Green energy suppliers are changing the energy supplier landscape for good, increasingly creating real competition for the Big Six energy suppliers. One green energy supplier in particular has just scooped up the prestigious 'Supplier of the Year' award from uSwitch – Octopus Energy.

Remarkably, Octopus has taken the top-dog uSwitch award for the second time in the past three years, taking over from last year's winner Ovo. It was also named the ‘Best Customer Service’, 'Best Online Experience', and 'Easiest to Switch to' Supplier.

The prestigious uSwitch awards are based on surveys from 17,000 energy consumers and rank energy suppliers on everything from customer service to value for money, and from the availability of renewable energy to smart meter installation.

Octopus energy scored a very impressive 92 per cent on customer service, with Bulb Energy – another green energy supplier – hot on its heels with 91 per cent. Bulb Energy took the awards for 'Best Value for Money' and 'Best Deal for You'.

And what about the Big Six? British Gas has been named 'Best Large Supplier' – it also took awards for the best app and best rewards in the large supplier category. Things are not looking quite as positive for other large energy suppliers, with customer satisfaction levels dropping for all of the Big Six apart from British Gas, and NPower scoring the lowest.

Rik Smith, energy expert at said:

'The clear winners here are the innovative challenger brands who are putting their customers at the centre of everything they do.

'These disruptive suppliers have started to dominate the Uswitch energy awards in the same way that they’ve been wrestling control of the British energy market away from the big boys. It’s clear evidence that what bill payers want most, alongside great value deals, is excellent customer service.

'If you’re not getting the service you deserve, or are fed up about how much you’re paying, you can take the power into your own hands and find yourself as much as £400 better off as well. By voting with your feet and moving supplier, you’ll be able to find better service, a better deal, and a host of other options such as green electricity, advice on saving energy, and online account management.'
