Check out our Philips Sonicare DiamondClean review if you are looking to buy the best electric toothbrush around. We've been trying and testing the 2020 edition of the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000, and we've got a lot to report on. Not only has this electric toothbrush wowed us in every way possible – performance, battery life and functionality. But it's even smart so you can sync it with your smartphone for expert feedback.

The 2020 edition, huh? How much does that cost? This model retails at £340 but can often be found on sale. And, of course, you should be able to find it on sale during Black Friday 2020 – we hope.

I first tested the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean after switching from a manual toothbrush. Obviously, the results were incredible. Not only did my teeth feel completely different – and a lot cleaner – but they looked it, too. After a few months or so of using this electric toothbrush, I am still pleasantly surprised and would never look back.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: setup

After taking the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean out of its box and unpacking it, you are advised to charge it for 24 hours before use. There's not much to set up with this electric toothbrush other than fitting the head to the handle, which is easy. It's a smart idea to use the stand that comes in the box to stand it up in your bathroom, though it can do this on its own, too.

You can connect the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean to the Philips Sonicare app – more on that below – by simply downloading this app onto your smartphone and connecting your electric toothbrush to your smartphone via Bluetooth. The app will walk you through setup – this takes just a few minutes – and all that is required from you is to turn the toothbrush on and off again, and to create a Philips Sonicare account. From there you can monitor several electric toothbrushes from one smartphone.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: ease of use

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean is so easy to use that any child who can read could brush their teeth with it. There are two buttons, one at the top for power and the other for changing mode. You can select a mode by repeatedly pressing the bottom button until the mode you want lights up. Below the list of modes sits a battery bar so you know when it needs to be recharged, and also a photo of a brush head that will light up when yours needs to be replaced.

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean boasts a SmartTimer function and a QuadPacer function that activates every 20 seconds when in use to encourage you to clean all sections of your mouth. After using the toothbrush for two minutes it will turn off to ensure you don't over-brush your teeth, so there really is little effort required from you.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: functions

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean boasts five modes: Clean, White+, Gum Health, and Deep Clean+. To select a mode, keep pressing the plain button on the brush until the mode you want to select becomes lit. This electric toothbrush, when in use, boasts a pulse function that buzzes every 20 seconds to encourage you to brush all around your mouth. It also has a two-minute timer – the electric toothbrush automatically turns itself off after.

The only thing I could wish for if they were to make this electric toothbrush better, is that it could turn off every time you take it out of your mouth to spit or wet your toothbrush again.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: results after use

I switched from a manual toothbrush to the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean electric toothbrush, so I saw an immense change in my dental health. Not only do my teeth feel much cleaner (I didn't know teeth could ever be this smooth!) but they look it, too. Within the first week or so of using the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean, I definitely noticed I had less plaque, and also, thanks to the timer and pulse functions, that I wasn't brushing my teeth for long enough before (don't judge!). The pulse function has 100 per cent encouraged me to brush in places I would have maybe missed before, and, the fact it actually tells you when you need a new head is a lifesaver because who ever knows?

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: design

The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean comes in four colour options from white to black, pink and even rose gold. Boasting an elegant yet sleek look with a matte finish and hidden LED controls, once you press a button, the lights on the toothbrush will glow.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: app

You absolutely do not have to use the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean electric toothbrush with the app. However, if you do want to, it offers handy brushing advice in the palm of your hand.

Once you start brushing, if the Philips Sonicare app is open, it will begin to count you down from two minutes and warn you if you are brushing too hard at any point. On your home screen, you'll see how many uses you have left of your head, while the app boasts an automatic brush head reordering function so you'll never be forced to use a worn-out head. Also on your home screen, you can see a summary of your week – in terms of oral care – and tells you how long you have brushed for each day, how many times you have brushed each day and whether you did a good job or not – no judgement!

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: in the box

In the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean box also comes, as well as the electric toothbrush handle, one head, a cover for that head, a stand, a portable USB charging case and a 2-pin UK bathroom plug.

Don't have a 2-pin plug in your bathroom? Instead of buying an adapter, you can charge your electric toothbrush in its case through your computer or a USB plug.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean review: our verdict

As you've probably guessed from this Philips Sonicare DiamondClean review already, we highly rate this electric toothbrush and think it's a great buy for those after an easy to use model that's reliable and sits at a fair price point. While it does boast a lot of features, it still manages to be super easy to use and the battery life is one of the main things that wins us over – we love a holiday, but hate lugging around a charger!

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean: where to buy?
