1. Lavazza A Modo Mio Jolie & Milk coffee machine

The best Lavazza home coffee machine

Specifications

Type: Pod
Water tank capacity: 0.6 ltr
Pressure: 10 bar
Milk frother?: Why have we included the Lavazza Jolie coffee machine twice? Because, latte and cappuccino fans, this version will make your favourites using fresh milk. The frother is integrated into the machine, and has three functions.

Reasons to buy

+
Removable cup rest
+
Quiet operation
+
Milk frother function
+
User-friendly

Reasons to avoid

-
No temperature options

Best features?
Just like the non-milk frothing version, this machine has a removable cup rest so you can change the drink size. There’s also a used capsules drawer that will hold up to five and alert you when it’s full. Of course, its proportions are somewhat different to the without-frother machine, but at H331 x W222 x D217mm, it’s still a compact design.

The verdicts
This machine makes coffee as tasty as that from its frother-less counterpart, of course, but we think that with a larger range of drinks possible, even if black’s your style, it could be worth going for this option to cater for family and friends’ tastes. Like the non-frothing model, it’s quiet so won’t add another layer of sound to a busy kitchen.

The scores from shoppers? Buyers on the John Lewis site gave it 4.7 out of five as an average. They appreciated the brew, ‘sublime-tasting coffee’, and the frother, ‘amazing’, plus the overall package, ‘it’s very neat, its construction is excellent and it looks great on my kitchen worktop’.

Shoppers at Currys praised it for being ‘quick and easy’, making the ‘greatest coffee’ and its price.

2. Lavazza A Modo Mio Fantasia coffee machine

The most professional Lavazza coffee machine

Specifications

Type: Pod
Water tank capacity: 1.2 ltr

Milk frother?: This model includes a frother with a choice of three settings to create favourite milky coffees

Reasons to buy

+
Easy to clean
+
Milk function froths milk hot and cold
+
Large water tank capacity

Reasons to avoid

-
Sensitive touchscreen

Best features?
A generously sized water tank is useful when you’re likely to be brewing several coffees in one session. The cup rest can be adjusted to three different heights, so drink and vessel are compatible. This model will automatically eject used drinks capsules, too, while it has simple touch controls.

The verdicts
Make like a barista with a stylish machine and a range of black and white coffee options. We like this machine’s looks, and its quietness.

At Amazon, buyers found the ‘milk frother excellent’, and the machine ‘easy to operate’, while the coffee was praised as ‘absolutely beautiful’. A couple of people have complained of the touchscreen being too sensitive but majority rules!

Those who bought their machine from Lakeland said ‘froths milk really well for a small or large cappuccino or a latte’, while coffee ‘flavour is excellent’ and the machine is ‘easy to clean’.

3. Lavazza A Modo Mio Tiny coffee machine

The easiest Lavazza coffee machine to use

Specifications

Type: Pod
Water tank capacity: 0.75 ltr
Pressure: 15 bar
Milk frother?: No

Reasons to buy

+
Large water tank capacity
+
One button operation
+
Compact

Reasons to avoid

-
No milk function

Best features?
This model may be called Tiny, but it actually has a larger water tank capacity than some of its Lavazza A Modo Mio siblings. Its removable parts go in the dishwasher (hurrah), and the capsules are easy to slot in. There’s just one button to press to deliver your coffee, too.

The verdicts
We reckon this machine is hard to beat for a tasty espresso with no fuss – and it’s well-priced to boot. Like the Jolie (see below), its small size makes it a sound buy if you don’t have a lot of worktop going spare in the kitchen, and you won’t begrudge the space you do give up to it as it’s a stylish number.

And the online reviewers? Those who purchased their Tiny coffee machine at Amazon thought it was ‘compact and efficient’, made ‘lovely coffee’ and was ‘good value for money’.

On the Robert Dyas site, shoppers were delighted by the ‘simple, speedy operation’ and said it ‘makes excellent coffee quickly and easily’.

4. Lavazza A Modo Mio Jolie coffee machine

The most different Lavazza coffee machine

Specifications

Type: Pod
Water tank capacity: 0.6 ltr

Milk frother?: No

Reasons to buy

+
Choice of three colours
+
Auto shut-off so energy saving

Reasons to avoid

-
No milk function
-
Bright colours aren't for everyone

Best features?
This is a petite machine with dimensions of just H210 x W124 x D330cm and will sit neatly on the worktop. There’s a choice of three bright colours, (the red one is our personal fave) - so it isn't shy despite its modest proportions. The cup rest is removable so a mug for a longer coffee will fit on to the machine. It’ll save energy with an auto shut-off after 9 minutes, and it’s quiet in use.

The verdicts
If tasty espressos – or variations on the theme – are what you’re after, this jolly machine will do the business. We like being able to put the drip tray, waste drawer and capsule holder in the dishwasher, we love its style, and the coffee’s excellent.

Amazon shoppers gave it their blessing, too, with 4.9 out of five stars. ‘Simple, sleek and gorgeous’ said one, while another commented ‘small footprint, quiet and quick, but most of all, excellent-tasting coffee’.

Buyers on the Currys site were also heavily in favour with 9.5 out of 10 overall. It was ‘easy to use’, ‘makes excellent coffee’ and ‘works quickly’.
