Scandinavian rugs have been calling our name recently. It's probably because of the weather and the chilly draughts coming through the floors of Towers. But we don't want any old cosy rug, however good looking. Nope, we want ones with Scandi style.

Why? Well, other than making your floors feel – and look – super cosy and welcoming, they simply never go out of fashion and are sooo easy to coordinate around. Plus their light colours are space-enhancing, too.

Fun fact: the minimalist, clean cut silhouettes and light, natural colours that define Scandi design originate from the 1950s, inspired by the long winters (and hence long nights) in their homeland.

Anyway, we thought we'd do you the favour of rounding up the best Scandi rugs we could find to save you the legwork. (You know what? It wasn't exactly hard work). Find more gorgeous rugs on our best buyer's guide.

1. Best Ikea Scandinavian rug, £99

Reminder: the clean, minimalist lines and light colours of Nordic design don't mean you have to sacrifice really living in your Scandinavian interiors. This rug is super soft underfoot, but is durable and stain-resistant, too. No excuse not to buy a Scandinavian rug now. SKARRESÖ high pile grey rug, £99 (opens in new tab), Ikea.

2. Best Wayfair Scandinavian, £45.99

If you can look at this rug and resist buying it for £45.99, you have an admirable level of willpower. The creamy, neutral base colour, patterned with a dusty, pale turquoise design makes it the perfect rug for a beach-house or anyone wanting to inject some calm into their colour scheme. (We've got a guide on how to create a mood board for colour scheming by the way.) Plus, this rug is easy to clean and fade resistant. Hygge with a subtle twist.

3. Best West Elm Scandinavian rug, £509

Whoa! We've upped the price tag with this one (there are cheaper lookalikes). But we did want to show you one traditional Moroccan berber rug, which is perfect for a Scandi interior. Typically, Moroccan textiles are vivid and rich, but the palette used here is a muted monochrome... and it's a super popular design with interiors influencers at the moment. Souk Rug, £509 (opens in new tab), West Elm. Check out Wayfair's Desire Cream rug for £92.99 (opens in new tab) if that's more your spend level.

4. Best Next indoor/outdoor recyclable Scandinavian rug, £55

We've been talking about the best outdoor rugs for a while, and now we're adding this one to the mix. Its striking diamond design against an off-white canvas shows Scandi design appreciation while its material (produced from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles) shows respect for the environment. Fade resistant and hard wearing, we have no choice but to love it! And, by the way, it doesn't have to be limited to the garden – outdoor rugs make perfect kitchen rugs. Indoor/Outdoor Recycled Rug, £55 to £130 (opens in new tab).

5. Best John Lewis Scandinavian rug, £280

We are actually obsessed with this rug even though it doesn't follow traditional Scandinavian design rules. Yep, you've spotted it... those huge, vibrant teardrops printed in its centre? Not necessarily what we'd expect from a rug that calls itself Scandi. However, its neutral backdrop means an enticing contrast. Give your room a lift with this statement rug. Scandi Teardrop Rug, £280 (opens in new tab), John Lewis.

6. Best circular Scandinavian rug, £110

If you love the neutral colours and prints you've seen so far but want a circular rug, this geo diamond rug from Next is what you need. With a diameter of 160cm, this rug will be a perfect centrepiece in a room with hardwood flooring. The charcoal and white contrast is natural with some depth. You just can't stop staring at it, can you? Geo Diamond Rug - Circular, £110 (opens in new tab).

7. Best Argos Scandinavian rug, £135

Want a rug with more of a traditional look? This stylish floral rug has a soft pile that's been woven using a 100 per cent polypropylene yarn which is anti-shed, hard wearing and stain resistant. Love it. Origins Watercolour Rug in Grey, £135 (opens in new tab), Argos.

8. Best Dunelm Scandinavian rug, £35

Looking for a fluffy rug for your bedroom, or to sling over a sofa or armchair? Faux (or real) sheepskin will give you the feel you're after. This one has a deep pelt and comes in a range of colours. Sheepskin rug, £35 (opens in new tab), Dunelm.

9. Best M&S Scandinavian rug, £15

Bath mat from Marks & Spencer

We've gone a bit off piste here: this isn't a rug as such but it IS a bath mat. Love it! Who knew it would be so easy to instill Scandinavian style into a bathroom? It also comes in red and white (which looks pretty festive). And it's a good price, too. Scandinavian bath mat, £15 (opens in new tab), Marks & Spencer.
