Kim, 34, based in Lancashire, undertook a house renovation that, in her own words, has a style that's 'enthusiastically colour-driven maximalism with a mix of eclectic modern vintage.' Combining DIY and upcycling techniques helped her save money, and the results are stunning.

Kim told Swyft Home that 'transforming the whole house was so therapeutic and I thrive off design, pattern clashing and bold dramatic colors. I thrive working under pressure with big transformation reveals at very little cost.' She admitted that the task of working on a budget was 'challenging', but allowed her to create 'an incredible glow up. My whole house consists of my own handy work and creativity constantly making dramatic changes for less money.'

Asked where she obtained the many unique pieces that form the new decor, Kim said that she often heads 'to local vintage stores and charity shops treasure spotting.' She also enjoys upcycling using the best furniture paint: 'it's amazing what a bit of spray paint can do! Everything after a bit of love and attention can be transformed into a show-stopping statement piece of decor.'

If you want to attempt something similar, Kim's advice is to start 'gathering samples of materials to create a tactile mood board so you can get a sense and feel of the space you are wishing to transform.'
Next, 'paint large areas of colour swatches on the walls in different areas as each angle of every colour reacts differently depending on the lighting, so can be quite misleading.'
If decorating with upholstery, 'fabric swatches are always a good idea – then you can sense the mood the material creates with the atmospheric surroundings for the scheme.'

If you fancy recreating Kim's style in your home, she recommends 'indulging in maximalist soft furnishings, bold colour and pattern with quirky gold statement accessories.' However, in Kim's opinion, it's always better to be individual than copying someone else's decor: 'go with your own personal design style of what you love and don’t be influenced by other people's style and design, as interiors are such a personal decision. My house is a complete mix up of everything we love as a family, an eclectic mix of dramatic patterns and bold color reflects us as a family and our personality.'
Kim's home is a perfect example of how throwing away the rule book and just going with what you enjoy can produce spectacular results.
