With Halloween just around the corner, we're all looking for ways to add a little ghoulish character to our homes. And, is there a better place to start other than on your front porch? We don't think so.
If you're not into overly complicated (or spooky) Halloween decoration ideas, then this is a look you'll want to copy. Alabama-based Joanna Keel's cute Halloween front porch seems so effortlessly put together but the finished result is a total knockout. This is how she pulled it off:
The Porch before
Keel's front porch before was pared back for a simple but polished fall look. Decked out with patio furniture and deck lighting, as well as decorative touches like the wreath and duo of planters – big and small – it's a functional and inviting space.
Keel decided to tackle her porch for Halloween on a fittingly cloudy and rainy week. With clever buys from Old Time Pottery, she was able to bring a cool and characterful look to life.
The front door before
Keel's choice of Halloween outdoor decor was spot on. Starting around the door, she swapped out her classic foliage wreath for a cute ghoul door knocker from Old Time Pottery which is giving us Casper vibes in all the right ways.
The results
The pair of ferns were changed up with spooky twig-like trees in dark colored planters, brought to life with a selection of colorful mums – the perfect floral fall addition for any home.
Next, it was the simple swap in of a black and white plaid detailed doormat. Keel layered a white rug underneath, adding a touch of design interest that makes all the difference.
Keel used a mixture of faux and carved pumpkins which adds more depth as you can experiment more with colors plus, it's a quick fix to keep pumpkins from rotting in a hurry too!
'I love the black and white decor with the house. The pops of color from the mums really set it off. Most of all it is a lot of fun!' Says Keel.
Layering decorative details like those bats over the door and the hanging ghosts from the deck roof - that you can spot from the inside too – makes the space work on so many levels.
With the simple addition of Halloween-inspired cushion covers (that you can keep and use year after year) Keel proves that you can create a stunning Halloween porch display, without overspending on time or money.
Add the classic trick-or treater spooky signage at the end of your garden path and consider it the cherry on top of your Halloween porch – sure to impress the neighbors.
