The wooden detailing paired with the satin black surface of the shade and stand is giving us New York loft apartment vibes. It's only £6 in the sale and it's a feature piece that will bring so much to your room... don't miss out. Home Ribbon Shade, £6. Why small living rooms? We actually can't get over the fact that this stunning lamp is in the sale for £26.25. It's so effortlessly elegant, boasting natural tones and materials to show its simple beauty. The bubbling texture of the clear glass gives it a certain rustic feel and it's recycled glass! This is our favourite piece from the Argos lighting collection because its soft, warm light is perfect for any season. Highland Lodge Recycled Table Lamp, £26.25.

4. Best dining room over-the-table light, £26.25

A smoked glass shade hung on a simple twisted cord in crisp copper? Go on then, we'll take 10. The length of the cord is 100cm but can be adjusted to 35cm. It's the ultimate modern relaxed look that interior designers love right now, and because the shade is glass you can pair it with a funky industrial style bulb PLUS the transparency of the glass means the light-throwing capabilities of the light are maximised – perfect in small or dark spaces. It can also be used with a dimmer switch, so we are eagerly anticipating some moody dinners with this pendant light. Plus, it has five star reviews so we aren't alone with our obsession. Highland Lodge Glass Pendant Light, £26.25.

Not keen on yellow? It comes in a whole host of on-trend colours, including neutrals. Perfect for casting light downwards on to a table, thanks to its opaque shade, it's sure to create an intimate atmosphere. Metal Shade in Mustard, £7.50.

Yup, this is from the same range as our first pick (and you'll see another version below). For us, it's the perfect pick for a contemporary or retro bedroom; the shade's black but the inside of it is white, so plenty of light is cast downwards; plus, the wood detailing adds much needed texture to any scheme. We love it. Kanso Pendant Ceiling Light in Black, £18.75.

7. Best bedroom table light, £30

Want something a little softer than the pick above? There's plenty of choice at Argos, but for the bedroom, we love this more curvaceous buy from the same range. The patterned base adds texture and interest while the dark fabric shade creates atmosphere. Perfect for a bedside table due to its tall, thin (and therefore space-efficient) shade, it's also fab in a living room. Suitable for dimmable bulbs, too. Argos Home Kanso Ceramic Table Lamp in grey, £30

8. Best desk lamp, £22.50
