With home schooling and working from home the new ‘normal’ for many of us, all those little adventures (and messes) are becoming more and more of a challenge to keep on top of. Messy play in the garden, spilt juice and tomato sauce dropped down more jumpers than one can count is a scene which family households across the country will be all too familiar with, so a washing machine that can tackle stains in its stride whilst being gentle with clothes is a must.

To help keep your clothes looking their best, we’ve teamed up with AO.com to share four ways that this Hotpoint ActiveCare washing machine will get tough on stains.

There’s also a good deal to be had (in more ways than one) when you shop directly with the online electrical retailer, which will see you make some savings from the point of buying, and beyond.

1. Large capacity

It seems like an obvious consideration, but one not all of us may consider when looking to buy a new washing machine. Having a drum capacity that’s large enough to fit all members of the family’s laundry in it is half the battle, so you can spend less time dealing with the mountain of laundry.

If you get through a lot of gym clothes and school uniforms then, as a general rule of thumb, a washing machine with a 10kg capacity should be ideal for a family of four or five. Typically, a drum of this size is capable of washing up to 50 shirts in one load. A large drum also means that there’s more space for clothes to spin and get a thorough rinse through.

2. Programmes to get tough on stains

There’s simply no avoiding stained clothes sometimes. A messy dinner, a jog across a muddy field and the latest homeschooling art project all take their toll on our clothes.

The ActiveCare washing machine from Hotpoint is tough on stains, whilst being kind to your clothes. It’ll remove over 100 of the most common stains at just 20°C*, keeping colours and fabrics looking their best, and the low temperature means you won’t have to worry about the cost of the energy bill at the end of the month.

*Obtained on Anti Stain program (tested on Cotton) and ActiveCare option activated. Example of stains tested: pizza, coffee, pen ink, milk with cacao, bronzer, mud.

3. Cleaning with the power of steam

Although a tech we may not all associate with cleaning our clothes, steam is the underestimated power behind keeping clothes hygienically clean. Features such as Steam Hygiene offer a deep clean that harnesses the power of steam to remove 99.9%** of bacteria and allergens.

This particular setting allows steam to enter the drum and penetrate fabric towards the end of the cycle. It’ll get much deeper into fibres than using water and detergent alone. The result is that clothes are left incredibly fresh, are easier to iron, and it’s a good option for those who have sensitive skin, too.

4. Quick wash cycles

When the children are back at school but we’re out of the nightly routine of getting the uniforms ready, don’t panic; the quick wash cycle can rescue you.

Quick wash programmes can range from 15 minutes to 30 minutes (depending on which model you opt for) and get your laundry done in a hurry. The Hotpoint ActiveCare NM111064WCAUKN also features a rapid option that allows you to reduce the wash cycle duration by up to 50 per cent without compromising on wash performance, so you won't have to wait long for stain-free clothes.
