Let's start off with the essentials, shall we? Caffeine. If a spoonful of instant and some hot water just won't cut in anymore, you're in luck because this Silvercrest filter coffee machine is down to just £14.99 at Lidl this week! It makes up to 10 cups (the perfect amount of coffee for one sleep deprived student) and will keep warm for hours after, thanks to the hot plate.

Second most essential thing: quick and easy food. We promise once a George comes into your life you will wonder how you ever lived without him. You can use him to cook meats, grill veggies and (obviously the most important thing) melt your cheese toasties! This compact George Foreman is only £14.99 right now in the Middle of Lidl, but you are going to have to be quick we reckon – this is going to sell out quick!

If your cooking repertoire goes beyond cheese toasties, you might want to invest in this Russell Hobbs cooker. We say invest, this one is only £18.99. You can use it to cook rice, stews, veggies, you name it. Plus it's actually super easy to clean too.

Everyone in your halls is going to come equipped with a ton load of pots, pans, woks, steamers, whatever, and they are all pretty much going to look the same. So unless you want someone cooking the mum's 'specially' curry (a tin of tomato soup with a table spoon of curry powder) in your pan, get ones that stand out. Lidl have whole range of teal coloured cookware starting from just £3.99.

As unglamorous as it might be, you will need to take a mattress protector to uni. Firstly, because hate to break it to you, but you probably won't be the first person to have slept on your mattress and secondly, mattresses are expensive to replace should you spill a mug of coffee or a glass of red wine on them (Red wine? Who are we? Sorry we mean a blue VK). This one is literally £4.99 so treat yourself.

If you have been blessed with under bed storage in your new digs, use it, it will be invaluable. Guaranteed all your clothes won't fit in the minuscule wardrobe you have been given so get some some of these Lidl boxes to store stuff you won't be wearing all the time (e.g. all the fancy dress you will inevitably accumulate). Despite just being £9.99, these are really good quality, they come with lids to protect what's in them and they are on wheels too for easy access.

Oh look more storage. But pretty storage, that you will need. The last thing you want in your new tiny room is for it to feel cluttered, so get some nice storage boxes to hide away all your books, stationery and knick knacks. These come in a few different sizes and colours too so you can pick what fits in your room.

Finally something that isn't just super practical! We love this string of lights that doubles up as pegs. They aren't exactly going to transform your uni room, but they will make it feel more like home and are a great way to show your new flat mates 'Look I'm normal, I have friends at home, promise, we go out and everything.'
