These easy spring DIY ideas from our designers are all renter-friendly small space DIYs, so everyone can give them a try.

1. Pressed flower coasters

Celebrate the natural beauty of spring by picking out wildflowers from your yard and bringing them inside,

“This DIY project allows you to preserve the beauty of blooming flowers and use it as a decoration piece in your home,” says Raf Michalowski, interior designer and founder of Meble Furniture.

All you need for this project are some dried flowers, clear coasters, and adhesive (this Liquid Nails Heavy Duty Coaster is Amazon's Choice).

“To start with, place the coaster on top of a flower and cut around its edges,” he says. 

Raf says to make sure to properly dry the flower beforehand for a more precise cutout. From here, you can apply adhesive on the coaster and carefully place the pressed flower on it. 

“You can use different colored flowers or create a pattern with them to add variety,” he adds.

Once done, leave it to dry completely and then seal the coaster with a waterproof spray (this Krylon Aerosol from Amazon dries in minutes).

“Make use of clear glass vases or jars to create terrariums, planting them with pebbles, soil, and spring succulents for an addition of green life,” Artem suggests.

5. Make a unique wreath

A lot of people love decorating their front doors with wreaths during spring. But why not try something different and add a twist to it? 

Raf explains, “For this DIY project, you will need twigs or branches, colorful ribbons, and any type of faux flowers.”

You can take the twigs or branches and arrange them in a circular shape, securing the ends together with twine or floral wire (this Paxoo Floral Wire is highly-rated on Amazon). 

Then, Raf says using the colorful ribbons, wrap them around the branches to add color.

"Love is in the details," says designer Chantelle Hartman Malarkey. "I start by creating a list that covers the five senses to make sure I give guests the entire experience and create a festive ambiance. You want your guests to walk into the room and immediately feel excited and ready to celebrate the night."

With that in mind, let's break down the non-negotiables for this late-night celebration.

New Year's Eve dining essentials

Whether you like your tipple shaken or stirred, a cute, well-accessorized bar cart with celebratory drink ware is a must for New Year's Eve.

"Choosing glassware that is trendy, unique or to a theme is fun to drink out of and also hele guests feel nice and festive," Chantelle adds. "Add some fun garnish to the drinks or something that makes them memorable and photo worthy."

Champagne flutes are a given, but those less-sexy items that go forgotten need to be at the top of your shopping list. They'll save you a headache later on — trust us.  

"Oftentimes people forget the 'basics' and less glamorous items like having enough ice, proper service ware, and even enough trash bags," says Virginia Frischkorn, the founder and CEO of Partytrick. "While the visual impact is minimal, the impact on the host can be great."

Chances are you've listened to "All I Want for Christmas" more times than you can count over the past several weeks, so switch things up for New Year's. 

"Close out the year with all your favorite tunes," says Olivia Pollock, senior director of brand marketing at Evite. "Create a playlist that will keep the energy up until midnight."

Speaking of the "Vampire" singer, we're currently swooning over Olivia Rodrigo's mid-century dining room. 1. Don't overdecorate

While you might be keen on the North Pole's busy and festive aesthetic, you're probably going to have to scale back in terms of decor if you're hosting lots of guests in a small space. 

Fortunately, we've tackled the biggest conundrum first and asked the experts how to fit a Christmas tree in a small space. And yes, it is doable without going making your nerves jangle like Christmas bells.

From there, assess whether your holiday tchotchkes — trinkets — are taking up prime real estate where you'd otherwise be able to seat a guest, or make use of valuable table space. 

When discussing neutral Christmas decor, the founder and CEO of Blythe Interiors, Jennifer Verruto, suggests opting for durable, long-lasting, versatile pieces that will last beyond the holidays.

"By incorporating decor with longevity, you'll save time, space, and money," Jennifer previously told Real Homes. "Invest in decor that isn't just for a specific holiday, but rather will last you from fall through winter and into the new year."

2. Dine informally

One of the best Christmas hosting hacks? Doing away with a formal living room setup for dinner. 

"An informal dining experience can be just as special and in a small space, it can feel more cozy and intimate," says Jen Nash, head of design at Magnet. "Set up food in a buffet style, using the kitchen countertops as a serving surface and then dot chairs around the space where guests can sit."

And, speaking of chairs, it's OK to get creative with seating, whether it's a storage ottoman or a pouf from the living room. If you need to bring in foldable chairs and tables, why not? 

3. Rearrange the room

If you truly have a sit-down dinner in mind, there's a way to make it happen, but it'll require some rearranging and decluttering your living room and possibly your dining room or studio space. 

"Rearranging furniture and placing it at the perimeter of the room will open up a central space where the dining table and chairs can go," Jen says. "You may want to consider diagonal dining, positioning your table at an angle to run diagonally across the room. This clever trick maximizes floor space and allows for more seating."

4. Spread out the serving areas

Find your favorite bar cart, set aside a spot for the appetizers, and leave the dessert on the table. It's all about divvying things up to create more room for all of your guests.

"Not putting everything in one spot is key," Jen says. "By scattering a few serving areas throughout a small home, you’ll keep foot traffic moving and make your small space seem less crowded. For example, put your bar or drinks station on a small table in one corner of the room, your meal on the main table and the dessert in the kitchen."

5. Ask for help

When discussing ways to make hosting dinners a little less stressful, designer Chantelle Hartman Malarkey suggests going the potluck route to free up time, space, and headaches. There's a reason why there isn't an 'i' in team, folks.

"Instead of putting all the pressure on you to come up with so much food in a small kitchen, have everyone bring a dish so you are not overwhelming your oven," she previously told us. "Most guests ask what they can bring so take them up on it!"

6. Use an air fryer

Even if you divvy up the dinner responsibilities, you'll probably still have, literally and figuratively, quite a lot on your plate. Although we lean on our ovens for many of our hosting needs, don't forget about your air fryer. If it can do the work during the week, it can also handle holiday side dishes, too.

One thing worth noting about the Twelfth Night is that no one can seemingly agree on which date it actually falls on. It could be either January 5th or 6th, depending on whether Christmas is counted as the first day, or not.

New Year’s Eve

While lots of people prefer to leave their Christmas tree and other decorations up until the start of January, if you’d prefer to start the New Year with a clean, clear space, it’s perfectly fine to take your Christmas tree down on New Year’s Eve. 

Out with the old, in with they new, as the saying goes.

If the tree starts to die
