When I got the chance to review the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer — I was stoked. Because let's be real: she's America's sweetheart and a total queen. I opted for the lavender shade — one of my favorite colors and one that I thought would complement my pastel blue backsplash.

As someone who lives in a hot climate and is currently experiencing one of the most intense heat waves in history, cooking in an oven is a huge no-no. I’ve used some of the best air fryers in the past and have enjoyed getting the “oven experience” without the dark side of that (turning my entire apartment into a sauna).

I’ll be testing a few different foods in the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer to see how they fare against my standard American diet. I’ll be judging its effectiveness and I’ll be hoping you don’t judge my diet too harshly (sorry not sorry for loving bacon and cookies!).

TLDR: What I thought of the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer

The Beautiful Air Fryer by Drew Barrymore looks like your standard air fryer, with a few notable improvements. You won’t find any buttons, knobs, dials, or thingamabobs on this small kitchen appliance thanks to the touchscreen display. It also has its signature gold handle and accents which give a touch of elegance.

The air fryer has four functions — air fry, roast, dehydrate, and reheat — and comes with an instruction manual that has a chart of common foods with their recommended function and cook time. Neither the Dehydrate nor Reheat functions came with such directions, which seems like a missed opportunity.

All that to say, I’m giving this air fryer four out of five stars. Let’s dive into why!

The air fryer itself is, indeed, beautiful as the name implies. When it’s plugged in but not turned on, the power “button” (again, not a button but a glowing touchscreen light) glows faintly. Tap the power button and the full screen appears with all four cooking functions.

The basket is a fairly typical size at six quarts, and although the separate crisping tray is nice to have, it fits a bit strangely inside the basket. It has padded feet on all four corners, and I had to really make sure I pressed firmly in the center to get it to fit. There’s no preheating required for this air fryer, and it has a 60-minute auto shut-off safety function. I did not test this function, mostly because I was ready to eat each time I popped some food into this air fryer!

The air fryer comes in a cute and colorful box with a lovely little photo of Drew and a message from her that reads, “Make Something Beautiful.”

The packaging itself was minimal: a plastic bag and two pieces of cardboard cutouts that contour the air fryer to protect it in transit. I read the instruction manual and gave the basket and the crisping tray a quick wash so I could get started.

Cooking bacon

It’s breakfast time in this reviewer’s home, so bacon it is! Normally I fry bacon on the stovetop and just deal with the fact that I’ll be spending 20 minutes afterward cleaning up all the splattered grease. I was curious and hopeful that this air fryer would give me that precious time back.

I laid out three thick-cut slices of bacon and followed the cooking guide. Roast at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for eight minutes. And that was it for prep! No oil required. I noticed some rattling going on while the machine was operating. I crossed my fingers and hoped that it wouldn’t affect my bacon.

After the eight minutes were up, I opened the drawer and found that one of the slices had flown on top of another slice. Surprisingly, this didn’t impact the cook — the bacon was that perfect in-between of meaty and crispy. And I was very happy that cleanup was a breeze. Because it’s nonstick, it only took a quick swipe of a soapy sponge to get the residue off of the crisping tray. Success!

Cooking a frozen hash brown

As I let the bacon cool down, I quickly washed the basket and added in my next target: a frozen hashbrown (it’s called a balanced breakfast!). There wasn’t a recommendation for this particular food, so I did my best guess and chose: Air Fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for seven minutes. 

Somehow this temp/time guess was right on the money. The hashbrown came out nice and crispy with the most gorgeous shade of golden brown. It was evenly cooked through, with no cold spots in the middle (a real concern when you regularly cook frozen potato products #IYKYK). 

Just like with the bacon, I didn’t use any oil or cooking spray for the hashbrown. I was feeling pretty good that in just 15 minutes combined, I had already made two-thirds of my breakfast (I scrambled eggs during the 'brown frying). Given that bacon alone would take longer than that on the stovetop, the air fryer was starting to impress me.

Baking a cookie

I am a chocolate chip cookie fanatic, and I’m not afraid to say it. About once a month or so, I whip up a batch of brown butter choc chip cookie dough and portion it out into individual scoops. I’ll freeze the dough balls and, as such, I am always about 10 minutes away from a freshly-baked cookie.

This past year I learned something life-changing: you can air fry cookie dough. Yes, it’s true. I don’t need to turn my apartment into a sweat lodge just for one cookie. Since then, I’ve been ditching my oven and using an air fryer to whip up one at a time. I digress.

My standard setting is 300 degrees Fahrenheit for eight minutes for a single cookie, so for this Beautiful Air Fryer, that’s exactly what I did on the Air Fry function. As I usually do, I laid out a square of parchment paper underneath to prevent the dough from falling through the crisping tray. Two minutes in, I heard this whooshing sound and just hoped that it was NBD. After the eight minutes were up, I opened the basket and found a perfectly baked cookie…and a wrinkled piece of parchment off to the side.

So despite a bit of paper aviation, this air fryer can definitely bake a cookie. (You’re welcome for the pro tip.)

Reheating a sausage patty

I’ve been on my meal prep game, which means I baked several sausage patties days ago and will reheat one every now and then. So when it came time to make my lunch wrap, I knew exactly what I was going to do.

I popped the sausage patty into the basket and selected Reheat at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for six minutes. I opted not to use oil (are you sensing a theme here?), for no reason other than I didn’t think it needed it. 

As expected from my previous trials with this air fryer, it came out nicely. Because this was already cooked before, the color or look of the sausage patty didn’t change during the Reheat. Hot, fresh, ready to be wrapped up in a big tortilla — this sausage patty was another success for the Beautiful air fryer.

Cooking a steak

For my final test, I went big and went home (kidding, I was already home!) by deciding to cook a steak. NGL, I was skeptical about this one. I’ve seen and heard of others cooking steaks in air fryers before, but never have myself. I’m a Texan and I’m pretty sure I’d be disowned if I cooked a steak on anything other than an outdoor grill with George Strait playing in the background.

I chose to go with everything I’ve ever known and opened the air fryer drawer, rubbed a little extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper on the steak, and pray it turned out okay. I followed the cooking chart guide and went with roasting at 360 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Don’t tell my dad, but this turned out pretty good. The outside edges got crispy and brown, while the inside was a moist and juicy medium-rare. Although it doesn’t compare to a grill with that nice, smoky flavor, this was a decent alternative if you need to cook a steak indoors and without a stove/oven. I probably wouldn’t do a steak in the air fryer again, but it was still a fun test and worked out!

Cleaning the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer

The instruction guide asks that you clean the air fryer basket and crisping tray after every use, after they’ve cooled completely. You can also wipe the exterior of the air fryer with a soft, damp cloth, though I didn’t need to do that during my testing.

The guide also states that you can wash the basket and crisping tray in the top rack of a dishwasher. I try to avoid using mine, especially for large items, so I went with the old soap and sponge method. They advise against using metal utensils and abrasive cleansers so you don’t damage the nonstick coating.

Honestly, everything is so non-stick that I feel like I could’ve just pursed my lips and blown the food residue off. Taking the more sanitary route, I rinsed the basket and crisping tray in hot water and with a quick swipe of a soapy sponge, all traces of bacon, cookie, and steak were gone. (Don’t worry, I cleaned everything in between each food.)

Is the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer right for you?

At just under $80, I’d say the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore air fryer is worth the money. It’s easy to use, looks great on a countertop, and makes single-serve cookies a reality. What’s not to love?

There are several different factors that we look for whenever we're testing an air fryers at Real Homes. We make a point to test out as many different features as we can and cook popular foods, as well as more unique meals. During testing, our reviewers make notes on several factors: 

• Power: The best air fryers are able to give your food a crispy, brown exterior with minimal oil, and they often cook faster than traditional ovens. In addition to the wattage of air fryers, we consider things like how long it takes to cook different foods, how well the ingredients are cooked, and whether recipes need to be adjusted to achieve the expected results. 
• Ease of use: Is the control panel intuitive to use? Does the tray slide in and out easily? Can you hear the end signal from the next room when the TV is on? I consider all these factors (and more) to determine whether appliances are convenient to operate. 
• Safety: We’ve heard horror stories about air fryers melting countertops or setting food on fire, so safety is always a top priority when I’m reviewing appliances. To this end, we look at things like the device’s safety features, construction quality, and overall design, noting if it gets overly hot during operation, turns off as expected, and overall feels safe to operate. 
• Clean-up: There are some people out there who enjoy washing dishes, but we're not them. After cooking (and devouring) a homemade meal, we want the clean-up to be as quick and easy as possible. We look at whether components are dishwasher safe, and if not, evaluate how easy it is to keep them clean. 

I love coffee. I used to be a barista for six years, I drink it every single day, and I love the ritual of making it and enjoying a cup. So when I was given the opportunity to review the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore Coffee Maker, I was excited! It comes in six colors, and I chose lavender (my favorite!). 

When I make coffee, it’s typically in my Chemex pour-over coffee maker. It’s been quite some time since I’ve used an automatic filter coffee maker where you get to just push a few buttons and get nice, hot coffee. I was looking forward to the next morning to test this out, so I excitedly washed everything, read the user guide, and went to sleep dreaming of all the beautiful coffee I’d be enjoying the next day.

TLDR: What I thought of the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore coffee maker

Like other small kitchen appliances in Drew Barrymore’s Beautiful line, this coffee maker also features a touch-activated display with no dials, buttons, or knobs. While this makes for a pretty sleek look, it ends up being a bit confusing to operate. I had to read and re-read the instruction guide several times and still ended up cycling through different “buttons” (again, they are LED buttons, not physical ones).

Once I got it to work, it did make a nice pot of coffee. I had some friends over, so I went with 12 cups, which comes out to 12 scoops of coffee. Note: the coffee scoop is included. Although the coffee tasted great, I have some major concerns. The top of the machine got seriously hot. I used my laser thermometer (what, you don’t have one of those?) and it read out at a concerning 189 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of this and the difficulty of using it, I chose to give this coffee maker 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The coffee maker comes in a cute and colorful box with a lovely little photo of Drew and a message from her that reads, “Make Something Beautiful.” (When Drew Barrymore tells you what to do, you do it!) 

The packaging is fairly minimal. It was sandwiched between two contoured pieces of cardboard and wrapped in plastic. Included in the box is the coffee maker, reusable metal coffee filter basket (no paper ones required), a charcoal water filter, and a plastic coffee scoop.

Before getting started, it’s advised to clean the coffee maker with hot, soapy water. The guide also asks that you run two full pots of regular water to flush out the system. In total, this took me about 20 minutes, since I waited for the machine to cool a bit before the second cycle.

On the touchscreen, there’s a clock you can set (this resets to midnight every time it’s unplugged FYI), an option to turn the beep sounds off, different programs and strengths, and the Brew/Off button. After all the setup, you add in the charcoal water filter inside the machine, which I thought was a fun addition.

The Beautiful Coffee Maker works pretty similarly to other machines. You lift open the lid, measure out your desired amount of water in the carafe, and pour it into the machine. There are tiered levels inside the water reservoir to indicate the volume in cups. 

After that, you take out the coffee filter. It’s important to note that this is made out of a reusable mesh, so you don’t need to buy disposable paper filters — a win financially and environmentally. The coffee basket also has a flat bottom and a handle so it’s easy to lift out of the machine and set it on the counter while you add in your coffee.

The included coffee scoop corresponds to the amount of water, e.g. if you want eight cups of coffee, you measure out eight cups of water and add eight scoops of ground coffee. Once it’s filled, you pop the basket back into the machine and you’re ready to go… almost. The charcoal filter doesn’t like to stay put after you add water, so I had to push it back down and quickly close the lid.

There are three options for brew strength: Regular, Gourmet, or Bold. I like a lighter cup so I went with a Regular. After it’s done brewing, the machine switches to a Keep Warm mode that can count up to four hours, and if you end up making it that long, it will sound twice before it switches off.

Cleaning the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore coffee maker

This machine was pretty easy to clean. The instruction manual recommends cleaning after every use, which is standard practice for coffee makers. After the machine cools, you’re meant to discard the coffee grounds, wash the filter basket and glass carafe with hot, soapy water (or in the top rack of a dishwasher!), and thoroughly dry everything before using again. 

As for the outside of the machine, a simple damp microfiber cloth (available on Amazon) should be enough to wipe away any stains or mess. For more difficult stains, the guide advises using a nylon or plastic pad (like Scotch-Brite cleaning pads) with a non-abrasive cleanser — something I, fortunately, didn't have to do.

There is also a Self-Cleaning function for descaling the machine that is supposed to automatically alert you when it’s required, after 300 uses. The guide walks you through detailed instructions on how to do this process, and it’s said to take between 45 and 60 minutes to complete.

Is the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore coffee maker right for you?

If you’re looking for a standard coffee machine with a big capacity and a beautiful finish, this is the coffee maker for you. It’s relatively affordable at $59, comes in six shades to suit any palette, and has a reusable filter so you don’t have to worry about buying paper ones.

I did find that a combination of all the various settings and a touchscreen-only display made it difficult to learn how to use. The machine is also quite large and may not suit every kitchen space. Lastly, and the most concerning of all, the top of the coffee maker got incredibly hot (almost 200 degrees Fahrenheit!) during brewing. I would definitely make sure you don’t have anything near this coffee maker while it’s on, juuuust in case.

The Beautiful by Drew Barrymore Coffee Maker was sent to me by Walmart, and I tested it out daily for several weeks before writing this review. I’ve continued to use the machine and will keep this updated if my thoughts or opinions on the coffee maker change.

Here are a few things we to look out for when testing coffee makers:

• Water tank: When looking at the water tank, I assess whether it’s easy to fill, remove (if at all), and clean.
• Operation: How easy is it to use the machine? Are the prompts/buttons legible? If the machine makes a sound, is it clear to understand what is happening?
• Type of coffee: What type of coffee does this machine take? Is it an appropriate volume for the resulting beverage? How much waste is left after the drink has been made?
• Cleaning and descaling: How easy is it to provide maintenance for the machine? This may involve anything from removing coffee stains to getting rid of limescale.
• Functionality of features: Here I may look at any standout features. In the case of the Ninja Programmable XL 14-Cup Coffee Maker Pro coffee maker, I observed how well the warming plate worked to retain the temperature of the coffee.

Personally, we wouldn't say no to a double vanity, but we can see why this trend leaves her blood boiling.

The topic came up on a recent episode of Drew Barrymore's eponymous show, in which she and friend and fellow actress Whoopi Goldberg discuss being single. 'Nothing makes me angrier than the double sink movement!' Drew exclaims. 

'I don't want a double sink! I want a single sink!' the 50 First Dates actress insists. 'If you're single, what do you do with that second sink? It doesn't work for storage!' 

This gets a lot of laughs from the audience. Whoopi Goldberg jokes that there are plenty of uses for it, like rinsing out your underwear. Over on Twitter, one person said, 'Drew has obviously never defrosted anything in her life.'

We can safely say this whole conversation is more about the many digs life throws at you for being single than it is about a sink. And for many people, separate stations for getting ready are very, very appealing.

A report earlier this year even said that adding a double vanity was the best bathroom update to do before selling your home. Described as 'relationship savers,' double sinks make mornings run more smoothly if you and your partner have similar schedules.

Barrie Cutchie, Design Director at BC Designs, says, 'over the last two-three years, we started to see a significant rise in orders where owners were purchasing more than one of the same styles of sink, as well as orders of double vanity units.

'The trend for this style has origins in five-star hotels and the luxurious bathrooms that started to dominate social media during this time,' Barrie adds. There's been small drop in popularity recently as people turn to second bathrooms in the home rather than the main one.

Given that the average bathroom size in the US is about five by eight feet, double sinks have a high opportunity cost: the extra space it takes up could always be used for more countertop space or simply a roomier bathroom.

They're lovely, but for many they're just not realistic, and it's an absolute no from Drew.

Actress, film producer, entrepreneur, talk show host and now co-chief creative officer of instead – a new natural lawn care program – Drew Barrymore never ceases to inspire us with her many creative talents. With a long-time devotion to nature and sustainable living, we caught up with Drew to talk about how having a luscious lawn and getting closer to nature was so important to her and her family.

'Your lawn is your new living room'

So you said you’re a California girl at heart and you’ve lived much of your life in your yard. Did you find that you spent more time in your yard since the start of the pandemic?

‘Yes in fact, my new quote, that I just came up with today, so it kinda feels like we designed the campaign as like your lawn is your new living room. 

And, I also think that I grew up in California but, I moved to Manhattan and then I didn’t have a lawn. I’ve since been lucky enough to get another one where I started a garden, but I just think they are not to be taken for granted and if you’re lucky enough to have any lawn whatsoever you have to make it a part of your living space. 

The pandemic definitely changed the way I look at everything, but also I just wish I had been a more environmentally conscientious person twenty years ago when the alarm bells started going off. And, I love that this generation is going to hold us accountable because I wish someone had held us accountable twenty years ago, and I feel really empowered by all the options that are coming our way.

I am obsessed with this company – instead lawn – I love their business model, I love the delivery. There’s spring, summer and fall, there’s levity and humor to the campaign, there’s just goodness here and so I’m so onboard. I want to shout about them from the rooftops.' 

'I created a vegetable garden and we grew our own vegetables'

Apart from keeping your lawn looking amazing, where there any major or even tiny upgrades that you made to your outdoor space in the last year, that made a really great difference? 

'Yeah, we raised six baby chickens. And now we eat their eggs, we’re so in love with them and I created a vegetable garden and we grew our own vegetables, and lettuces and herbs and tomatoes and it was incredible.

I grew eggplant and I didn’t think any of this was possible before and, I got really involved with creating this outdoor space and when other things go out of your life, new things come in. For me it was gardening, and I planted my own lawn and seeded it so, I’m all in now. I guess I didn’t have the confidence before, or maybe even the time.

'I think nature is so emblematic'

Would you say you have a green thumb now?

'Sort of, yeah. I just didn’t have the time and the space before. And like I said when everything went away I thought about how wonderful it would be to just get into nature and how calming it is for the senses. We were all so scared and the nature just brought me back down to a saner, more peaceful place and I think nature is so emblematic too. It has to go away, it has to hibernate, it has to become sort of odd looking and then it blooms again and rebirths, and it felt so in keeping with what we were all experiencing on this globe.'

'I pick chickens up all the time!'

It sounds like your kids are pretty into it as well, are they quite involved in everything that you’re doing? I mean, they must love the chickens?

'Yes we are obsessed with our chickens, we love our chickens, I love our chickens! And I’m now obsessed with eating their eggs, and they are actually really fun. They were a bit easier than I ever imagined, but I’m way too attached to them.'

You wouldn't think you could pick a chicken up and just stroke it, but you can, it’s mad. 

'Yes, I pick chickens up all the time!'

'I think I’ve always been connected to nature from growing up in California'

You mentioned that you wished you’d felt more eco-conscious twenty years ago, was there anything when you were growing up in West Hollywood that inspired you to live more sustainably or to have that connection with nature?

'It really didn’t, there just wasn’t the right messaging. The messaging was also very doomsday, I just turned my head away from it. I just eventually realized how dire and important it all was.

[Now] all these companies saying we’re gonna be all electric we’re gonna be this that, it’s like God where was this twenty years ago. But, at least it’s here now. I think you have to be inspired, it’s the route in, so right now I am just looking to work with companies that are going to be game changers. And, I also think that the way we live, and the food we eat, how we grow and plant has been very chemical and we have to reverse ourselves out of that.

But it’s here now, I’m just trying to take a new approach with new eyes towards everything I’m doing as a parent, as a person, as a business person, as a person who works for companies ... I am looking at everything with new eyes.'

'We got a little tiny trampoline during the pandemic and they are on it all the time'

What are the most important things you think a backyard should have, especially if you have children?

'As many things for them to be physical like jungle gyms, monkey bars – they are the hardest things in the world, I can not do them as an adult – swings, bikes, horseshoes, or you know hopscotch.

'I wish I had an outdoor kitchen, that would be amazing'

It’s clear that you prioritize sustainability in your backyard, but in terms of the decor of any outdoor living spaces you have or outdoor kitchens were there any holidays or particular film sets where the outdoor space inspired you to create a certain feel in your garden/yard?

'By the way, I wish I had an outdoor kitchen, that would be amazing.'

It’s the dream isn’t it.

‘Oh my God yes. I think this summer I’m gonna get a Slip-N-Slide which is this ridiculous sheet of yellow plastic that you lay down and put your garden hose in, and then your kids take a running start and then hurl themselves on it, that’s my summer plans, is to get a Slip-N-Slide.'

I think that’s a sensible summer plan.

'Yeah that’s my big goal this summer is to have a beautiful lawn and have the kids be doing Slip-N-Slides. I might also have to rock one of those old school sprinklers, the kind that fan back and forth and the kids can like run through.'

Sure, and they catch you out when you least expect it.

'Yeah, that’s what I want this summer to be like: Sprinklers, and Slip-N-Slides, and just out on that lawn. And, not just because we’re talking about a lawn care company, that is really my goal. Especially, now living in the East Coast I’m living through seasons so I really want to maximize summer – spring and summer.'

We are big fans of Drew Barrymore, really who isnt? We love her style, her humour and from the few peeks we have had over on Instagram her interior taste looks pretty  dreamy too.
